Marketing and Communications Manager UW Recreation has an outstandingopportunity for a Marketing and CommunicationsManager. The mission of UW Recreation is to providesafe, accessible, and dynamic recreation experiences to engagestudents in growth and wellbeing.The newly-created position of Marketing & CommunicationsManager will execute this mission by developing and implementingcomprehensive and strategic marketing, communications, and outreachplans in an effort to broaden awareness and promote UW Recreationofferings and the benefits of leading an active and healthylifestyle, with students as the primary focus.Promising candidates will possess a passion for recreation, have acreative approach to their work, show an ability to be a leading aswell as a contributing member of a team, manage projects and peoplewith the highest level of integrity, display an extreme attentionto detail, and have a proven track record of developing andexecuting a vision.This position reports to the Director and serves as a member ofRecreation's Extended Executive Team. It leads the department onall initiatives related to marketing, communications, andoutreach.Incumbent must view self as part of not only UW Recreation, butalso Student Life, UW campus(es), Seattle and PNW region, and thenational stage of campus recreation - and promote departmentaccordingly.RESPONSIBILITIES:Marketing, Communications, and Outreach Develop and implement the department's marketing andcommunications strategic plans for both an internal and externalaudience. Produce and maintain graphic designs for promotional materials andcontent for written copy to be used on various platforms such asweb, print, digital displays, and mobile. Oversee the department's website, apps, business pages, and socialmedia efforts, both current and emerging. Serve as the departmental contact and work in conjunction with theMember Services Manager and other staff to promote Rec offeringsand activities at on- and off-campus outreach events (e.g., tablingat fairs, vetting sponsorship opportunities, leading the Pac-12Challenge, etc.). Develop and implement department wide brandingstrategies. Hire, train, and supervise the Creative Team of part-time studentemployees to provide support in carrying out all marking,communications, and outreach responsibilities. The Creative Teamcurrently consists of a photographer/videographer and a graphicdesigner (eventual composition of the Creative Team will complementthe skills of the incumbent). Promote Recreation employment opportunities to engage as wide ofan audience as possible. Represent Rec across campus by participating in and contributingto relevant committees and marketing/communications learningcommunities (e.g., Student Life Social Media, UMAC,etc.).General Assist with department-wide student employee developmentefforts. Be a contributing member of the Husky Experience and StudentEmployee Engagement Committees. Work closely with the IT Manager to carry out responsibilities,including supporting Creative Team efforts. Assist with Recreation meetings (Leadership Team, Quarterlymeetings, ad hoc, etc.). Assist the Associate Director with the department's assessmentefforts by compiling and producing the department's AnnualReport. Manage the Marketing & Communications budget and maintaininternal control of all expenditures to ensure fiscalresponsibility and compliance. Prepare an annual budget byprojecting expenditures in staffing, software, services, andequipment.REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Three years' experience as a marketing/communications/outreachprofessional in the fields of Higher Education, Recreation,Non-profit Management, and/or Advancement. Technical skills in graphic & web design (e.g. Adobe CreativeSuite, WordPress, Microsoft Office programs, etc.). Possess interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diversegroup of students, faculty, staff, and colleagues. Demonstrated ability in leading people and projects. Demonstrated skill in supervising part-time staff and studentemployees. Demonstrated ability to write reports, analyses, and evaluationsclearly and effectively.
