Finance organization including Financial Reporting and Technical
Accounting, Tax, and FP&A, as well as Compliance, Engineering,

About the role
Zillow Group is looking for a Director to lead the Mortgages
Accounting team. This position reports directly to the Corporate
Controller and is responsible for overseeing the accounting
function related to Zillow Group's Mortgages business. The
Mortgages business includes
advertising sold to mortgage lenders and other mortgage
professionals through ZG's Mortgage Marketplace, mortgage
originations and sale of mortgage loans on the open market through
Zillow Home Loans, and the Mortech business providing mortgage
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in the financial
services sector, preferably the mortgage banking industry, a deep
understanding of the related generally accepted accounting
principles, and the ability to work closely with business leaders
to drive cooperation and problem solving. This role requires a
candidate capable of supporting our business by leading a best in
class accounting team and working cross-functionally to create and
oversee financial systems, processes, and procedures that support
strong internal controls and rapid growth.
Other responsibilities include:
- Manage the monthly and quarterly Mortgages segment close
process, ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of segment financial
- Responsible for the preparation of external financial
statements and coordination of external audits related to
standalone mortgage entities.
- Provide monthly, quarterly and annual financial information to
support debt covenant reporting for warehouse lines of credit and
regulatory reporting requirements.
- Lead an effective, deeply motivated and collaborative team
focusing on the development and growth of team members.
- Partner with business leaders to plan for new business
initiatives; advise on the design and implementation of scalable
operational accounting processes and systems to support these
- Provide technical accounting expertise over the mortgage
banking industry to ensure Zillow Group's accounting is in
accordance with GAAP.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and
related documentation to support strong internal controls in
accordance with SOX 404 and GAAP.
- Review high risk journal entries, balance sheet
reconciliations, and accounting estimates.
- Oversee monthly and quarterly Mortgages segment account
analyses and fluctuations.
- Maintain a staffing resource plan that supports sustained
growth of the Mortgages segment.
Who you are
- BA/BS with a concentration in Accounting
- CPA, with strong understanding of GAAP
- 10+ years' experience in public accounting, mid-to-large sized
tech, or a high-growth mortgage company
- Prior involvement working in the financial services sector,
preferably with extensive experiences in the mortgage banking
industry, fair value accounting, and accounting for derivative
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to think
conceptually and make effective decisions
- Experienced in delegation and motivating a growing team in a
highly dynamic environment
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills with the ability
to present findings and interact at all levels of the
- Ability to multi-task and excel in a fast-paced,
rapidly-evolving and data driven organization
- Experience managing and/or participating in a monthly close
