We are looking for a Senior Revenue Accountant to work in a collaborative, team environment and will be responsible for mentoring and developing staff/interns. They work closely with various departments to evaluate revenue recognition requirements and ensure appropriate recording of revenue. This role is encouraged to contribute to process improvement ideas and may be involved in the deployment of new processes related to evolving business requirements. Further, the position requires technical accounting skills as it relates to revenue recognition under ASC 606, including research associated with new offerings and application of new accounting mentorship. Requires a quick learner, must have an eye for detail, ambitious and willing to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.

The Senior Revenue Accountant position works as part of a team that completes daily, monthly, and quarter-end Revenue, A/R and Deferred Revenue processes; such as, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, credit memos, general ledger account reconciliations related to revenue and deferred revenue accounts, internal control activities and ad-hoc analysis. This role does not encompass collections.

Primary Responsibilities

Daily Functional Senior Revenue Accountant Tasks May Include:

  • Review and approve revenue transactions, resolve discrepancies and work with management to develop processes, procedures, and controls necessary to book transactions appropriately
  • Be a partner with foreign subsidiaries as it pertains to revenue related matters, respond to various requests in a timely manner
  • Technical research on matters affecting revenue recognition, including the application of ASC 606
  • Evaluation of customer contracts to identify potential revenue recognition impacts and working with partners to understand implications and mitigate risk
  • Review and resolve appropriate accounting treatment for sales incentives programs

    Monthly/Quarterly Functional Senior Revenue Accounting Tasks
    • Prepare and/or review standard and complex journal entries
    • Prepare and review reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts and create monthly reports. Participate in the accounting close process, which includes preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, related analysis, and ad hoc reporting for management
    • Perform analytics on revenue and related balances, understanding business drivers and their effect on financial results
    • Contribute to internal and external audit, including preparation of schedules and support and point of contact for auditor questions

      Special Projects
      • Assist in the development and documentation in the continual improvement of processes, methods, and standards
      • Assist in the development and documentation of process and procedures supporting the implementation and post-deployment activities associated with our new revenue recognition platform
      • Participate in cross-departmental projects to develop the appropriate accounting patterns required under ASC 606. Identify and communicate the impact of new programs or system changes on existing accounting processes as it relates to accounting operations under ASC 606

        Other responsibilities
        • Responsible for upholding F5's Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies
        • Provides direction and oversight to staff and interns
        • Performs other related duties as assigned

          Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
          • Understanding of accounting processes and principles surrounding revenue recognition
          • Successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to handle multiple responsibilities and be eager to tackle new, challenging tasks in a fast pace environment
          • Experience evaluating account balances and trends analytically
          • Ability to work with close attention to detail and recognize the impact on the financial statements
          • Strong research skills and the ability to utilize sound judgment and tackle problems independently, knowing when to bring situations to the attention of management.
          • Be highly organized
          • Ability to work collaboratively within the team environment, including mentoring and providing guidance to staff and interns
          • Have a customer service mentality and strong teamwork skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills
          • Excellent PC skills in all areas of MS Office, including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, and Word. Strong typing skills a must

            • 3-5 years of public accounting or equivalent experience, preferably with exposure to revenue recognition
            • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
            • High-tech experience a strong plus
            • CPA preferred

              Physical Demands and Work Environment
              • Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material
              • Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends)
