Job Description:

As a part of the HDT Bio team, the Controller will report to the Chief Operating Officer in support of financial compliance with policies and procedures related to grants, equity investment, and licensing. Activities will include full-cycle accounts payable / receivable, month-end close process, and cross-functional engagement with scientists / engineers, granting agencies, and business development / operations colleagues. The Controller will play an important role in implementing scalable tools and systems for the forthcoming company growth.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee accuracy, timeliness and reporting of month-end activities, including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and indirect expense allocation
- Manage accounting policies and procedures and ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
- Maintain internal control, operating policies/procedures, and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures
- Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of financial status
- Oversee regular forecasting, budgeting, and planning processes; compare actual results to financial plans with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
- Support the COO in engaging the board around issues and trends in operating performance and trends
- Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants
- Manage organizational cash flows by working in partnership with COO, grant administrators and principal investigators; continuously collaborate with partners to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations
- Make actionable recommendations for optimizing business performance
- Lead, develop and mentor staff to ensure their success within the organization
- Prepare and maintain company's financial statements and all local and federal reporting/filings
- Coordinate all external audit activity and manages relationship with CPA firm
- Track and analyze new rules and regulations related to financial reporting
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- BS in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or similar
- CPA / MBA preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP and government contracting requirements
- Experience in biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred
- Hands-on, self-motivated leader able to zoom in and out from detail to the big picture
- Able to take the initiative, multi-task, work independently and as part of a team, and problem solve
- Familiarity with accounting for government grants and contracts including indirect cost recoveries
- Experience evaluating, selecting, implementing, and managing ERP/CRM systems
- Familiarity with G-suite and Quickbooks
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
