About the RoleSaltchuk Marine Shared Services' (SMSS) dynamic customer-focused team provides a suite of support services including Accounting, Finance, Information Technology (IT), Human Resources (HR), HSQE, and Legal/Risk to Saltchuk Marine operating companies: Foss Maritime, AmNav, Cook Inlet Tug & Barge, and Young Brothers. As a Finance Director with Saltchuk Marine Shared Services, you will be dedicated to providing financial leadership to Foss Maritime, a distinguished, 125-year-old tug and barge company founded here in the Pacific Northwest. As the finance leader for Foss, you will be responsible for the financial health of the organization and support the business in committing to improvement through financial planning, analysis, and decision support. You will work as a team with the Corporate Controller to ensure accuracy and completeness of the Foss general ledger, review accounting records, complete timely reporting of financial results, and development of regular projections and Foss's annual plan.   • Be a member of Foss' leadership team, providing the COO and other team members with finance leadership, guidance, and support.
  • Direct, empower, and develop a team of Financial Analysts to support Operations efficiently and effectively.
  • Complete timely monthly financial closing for Foss Maritime by coordinating with the Saltchuk Marine Shared Service (SMSS) Accounting function to ensure timely and accurate financial data, accurate accruals, ensure corrections from the previous month are accounted for, and management's estimates are reasonable.
  • Create and deliver regular and ad hoc financial reports to, and participate in, OpCo Leadership and Saltchuk Marine Leadership meetings.
  • Develop regular forecasts, annual plan, and 5-year plan for Foss in partnership with the SMSS Controller and Manager, FP&A. Coordinate meetings with OpCo department heads ensuring accurate forecasts. Provide variance analysis to leadership.
  • Help develop the annual long-term capital plan and sales strategy in conjunction with Foss leadership and SMSS resources.
  • Support financing, joint venture, acquisition, and divestiture activity.
  • Support SMSS Accounting function on audits, accounting changes, and implementation of GAAP guidance.
  • Apply a Continuous Improvement approach to develop new processes and reports.
  • Connect with both internal and external customers ranging from the newly hired deckhand to the CEO of Saltchuk Resources.Supervisory and Leadership of Direct Staff
    • Provides direction and leadership to achieve company's Core Values, Mission and Safety Vision.
    • Directs, motivates, and develops employees for maximum performance.
    • Be an authority for "Speak Up", including encouraging peers and staff to make safe and ethical decisions. Understands and follows Company policies and procedures, including EEO, Inclusivity, Harassment, and Saltchuk Code of Ethical Business Conduct.
    • Responsible for all matters of employment including recruiting, training, development, promotion, corrective action, and termination. Process performance evaluations in a timely, effective and fair manner.Knowledge skills and abilities:
      • In-depth knowledge of financial analysis and financial accounting systems.
      • Excellent accounting skills including current knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Financial Accounting Standards, and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
      • Excellent social skills and analytical abilities. Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive financial analysis/statements, reports, and written materials.
      • Excellent customer service skills and experience in a shared services model preferred.
      • Must be a great teammate.
      • Handle tasks, set objectives/goals, and re-prioritize as needed.
      • Proficient in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel). Knowledge of SAP and Power BI is preferred.
      • Evaluate financial systems and practices and make appropriate recommendations for improvement.
      • Develop and implement financial procedures and controls.
      • Work collaboratively with other divisions and management, i.e., create effective partnerships throughout the organization.
      • Proven record of overcoming problems or issues to achieve a goal, and adjusting to changing priorities.
      • Knowledge of the maritime industry is preferred.Minimum requirements:This position requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. CPA, MBA or equivalent preferred and 7 -10 years' dynamically responsible experience in finance and decision-support roles. Demonstrable experience as a change agent.
