Working within the Grant and Contract Accounting (GCA) department, the Budget Fiscal Analyst is responsible for processing complex fiscal analysis and financial reporting of federal and nonfederal grant and contract accounts.

This includes projecting, analyzing, planning, interpreting and reviewing fiscal operations involving a variety of disciplines in order to prepare billings, reports, and reconciliations. Manage grant and contract budgets from setup to closeout within a team configuration. Make recommendations for and assist in the development of fiscal policies, procedures, system enhancements to improve the efficiency of GCA office work flow.

GCA has actively adopted the culture of Lean process improvement and continual change. All staff participate in team collaborations on a daily basis to identify and implement process improvements.


  • Review award documents related to new awards, renewals, supplements, revisions for new and existing grant and contract supported projects.
  • Review a variety of awards to ensure they have been properly reconciled, in compliance with award guidance. Review accounting system for accuracy and completeness.

    Identify and resolve issues prior to entering information in the UW's Financial Accounting System. Investigate

    discrepancies and independently resolve errors.

  • Perform complex analysis on accounting transactions involving processes across multiple UW systems to ensure compliance.

    Analyze, summarize and report on complex fiscal data and/or business management tasks.

    Interact with process partners to resolve issues related to payments.

    Participate in daily team collaborations to identify and implement process improvements.

  • May interact with sponsors, including federal, state, and private funding agencies, to exchange information and to resolve issues related to sponsored research issues.
  • Provide timely guidance and assistance on procedures related to company, state and federal processes, procedures, and requirements.

    Special assignments as requested by Manager.


    Bachelor's Degree with major study in accounting, business administration, or related field and two years of fiscal work experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.


    Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

    Strong analytic skills and high attention to detail

    Advanced skills in Micrsoft Access and Excel
