This position reports to the Financial Services Program Manager. The Financial Services Program provides accounting related services to the clients of 501 Commons.

Summary

This position provides direct bookkeeping services to our clients. Accountant handles bookkeeping for clients on an ongoing basis, from recording payroll to reconciling bank statements to creating financial statements, as well as other accounting tasks. Accountant manages several clients, providing monthly, quarterly, and year-end full-charge bookkeeping support.

Responsibilities

Handles the accounting cycle and provides full charge bookkeeping support for assigned clients
Ensures payroll, AP/AR functions, reconciliations, and financial statements are completed in an accurate and timely manner
Understands the bookkeeping cycle and completes work in a timely manner related to that cycle
Develops and maintains processes and documentation for assigned clients
Consults and advises nonprofit organizations about best practices for financial operations
Ensures compliance and reporting requirements are met
Shares knowledge and provides support to clients
Performs other duties as assigned


Remote work and COVID Policy

Requirements:
Competencies and Qualifications

Required

Minimum two years of accounting experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or equivalent experience
Functional proficiency of QuickBooks (desktop and online) and MS Excel
Working knowledge of accounting principles including GAAP, compliance requirements, and best practices
Effective time management skills, as demonstrated by being self-directed in managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
Ability to communicate accounting concepts in ways that are easily understood by all audiences
Ability to be adaptable and flexible in order to meet the needs of diverse organizations

Desired

CPA, EA or other certifications desirable but not required
Working knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles including fund accounting, compliance requirements, and best practices
