DescriptionMONROE CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX (MCC)OFFICE ASSISTANT 3FULL TIME**The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Office Assistant 3 for the Monroe Correctional Complex/Washington State Reformatory Unit (MCC/MSU). This position reports directly to the Secretary Supervisor of the Correctional Program Manager. This bulletin may be used to fill additional permanent and non-permanent OA3 vacancies at MCC.The Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) is a 2400 bed male all-custody level facility located 30 miles northeast of Seattle. The complex consists of five units; the original "reformatory", a large mental health inpatient treatment unit, a sex offender treatment unit, an intensive management unit and a minimum custody unit that also houses community corrections violators, much like a jail. Monroe is considered the hub of medical and psychiatric care for DOC. It is located close to University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center. MCC provides care for the sickest and most complicated patients in our system. In all, MCC houses approximately 2,500 offenders and employs approximately 1,200 staff.Whether the work is inside a prison, in community corrections, or in an administrative office, the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all offenders can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society.To be considered for this opportunity, please apply directly at, AND attach a current resume and a letter of interest (preferably no more than two pages), indicating how you meet the qualifications and why you believe you are the ideal candidate for this position.DutiesThe Office Assistant 3 uses independent judgment in the performance of clerical duties required for OMNI Offender Programs entries and callout Application entries and distribution. This position has interaction with and completes work as requested by the Correctional Program Manager (CPM), Correctional Unit Supervisors (CUS's), Counselors, and Work Crew Supervisors.Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Independently maintains and updates the job status and program enrollment/participation for all MCC/MSU offenders in OMNI Offender Programs;
  • Tracks all changes and daily management of wait lists in concurrence with offender work crew supervisors and classification counselors;
  • Creates callouts for programs;
  • Stays current on the policies and OM's for work programs and offender movement;
  • Assists and trains work supervisors in finding the most current forms for hiring and firing offender workers;
  • Creates Gate Cards for offenders when hiring;
  • Ensure all offenders working have current and up to date job screenings with clearance for the areas they work;
  • Respond to Offender Kites in a timely manner;
  • Enter work schedules for hired offenders;
  • Post job announcements for offender jobs that are in need of waitlists;
  • Maintains spread sheet for all staff access in accordance with the offender movement;
  • Obtain offender sign up-sheets from all units;
  • Enter and print daily program callouts and deliver to staff in units;
  • Coordinate programs throughout the facility to include placing offenders in proper programs to meet their needs, filling all program seats; creating certificates for completed courses and all OMNI Offender Programs and Callout System entries;
  • Assist Unit in various tasks to include filing and uploading pictures for the upcoming chain;
  • Run NCIC's for institutional visitors
  • Schedule attorney visits
  • Cross train to provide back-up for OA3 support staff under the MSU CPM;
  • Filing and other duties as assigned.* NOTE:*
  • This position will be assigned to work within the secure perimeters of the Monroe Correctional Complex and will have contact with offenders. This work is performed in a potentially hazardous setting with offenders who may have behavioral, social, mental health and/or medical issues, and who may exhibit non-compliant behavior toward staff and/or other offenders.
  • This position requires primarily desk work, however may require extensive computer work for long periods of time, extended periods of sitting. Some lifting standing or walking is required.Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED

    • Two (2) years of clerical, keyboarding/typing and data entry experience
    • Competent at performing general clerical duties
