Job Description:

Position: Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer, Fitness -Specialist.

Primary Purpose:

The primary responsibilities of the Fitness Specialist are supervising/coaching resident exercise sessions and providing fun, safe and engaging group fitness classes on land and in water. The Fitness Specialist is continually evaluating and striving to provide the best possible fitness experience to Parkshore residents, exceeding resident expectations through excellence of service. Approximately seventy-five percent of the time is spent providing supervised exercise in the fitness center and teaching group fitness classes; twenty five percent of the time is spent on administrative duties including record keeping, reports, meetings, creating promotional materials and related responsibilities.

Principle Responsibilities:

Greets residents, guests, fellow team members and vendors in a friendly, courteous and welcoming manner.

Assesses resident needs and provides education, recommendations, and motivation to help meet those needs and fitness goals. Works with residents individually and in groups.

Is familiar with fitness equipment including how to properly set adjustments, correct technique and operation, aware of safety and contraindications for each machine, also proficient in teaching proper and safe usage.

Assists residents and team members with orientations to fitness and aquatic centers, provides information on procedures, policies and waivers;

Supervises and/or presents exercise programs for Independent and Assisted Living residents, as well as works in collaboration with physical therapy team in providing post rehab programming;

Enhances resident experience and desired outcomes by teaching group fitness classes on land and in the pool; generates and maintains enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

Works with the fitness team to plan, promote and expand creative fitness opportunities for residents.

Produces promotional materials, newsletters, flyers, etc.;

Inspects, cleans and maintains equipment;

Maintains records of residents' progress; makes modifications, progressions and regressions to individual programs as needed.

Assists in data collection, reports and attendance records of fitness activities

Provides in-service trainings and assists with health promotion events as required;

Works in collaboration with other professionals to provide appropriate assistance to residents;

Performs administrative functions for the department;

Promotes the Mission, Vision, and Values of Transforming Age in all areas of responsibility;

Due to resident expectation and both planned and unplanned events/occurrences, employee may be required to work varying schedule to best serve the needs of the community

Other duties than assigned may be necessary and have overlapping roles and responsibilities.

Adherence to the current COVID policies as they currently exist or change, including daily COVID screening, wearing a mask at all times, weekly COVID testing (provided by company for each team members), and implementation and enforcement of sanitization and distancing protocols.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well with team members and external constituents.

People person, team player, self-starter, energetic, and works well in fast pace environment; have an abundance of patience, compassion and passion for enriching the lives of older adults.

Ability to provide excellent customer service at all times, even in challenging situations.

Understand and adhere to HIPPA Regulations.

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

- Four-year college or university education with a B.S. Degree in exercise-related discipline; and/or minimum two years of successful experience in a position working with similar responsibilities assisting senior adults;

National Fitness Certification required (ACSM preferred);

Experience in Group Fitness and Aquatic Fitness desirable;

Current CPR Certification

Must be able to demonstrate proper exercise technique, safety precautions and use of the exercise equipment;

Must have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;

Experience in prescribing exercise to special populations preferred;

Familiarity with the Senior Fitness Test preferred.

Must be physically able to assist residents in safe exercise, and the safe operation of the equipment;

Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Near Acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less. Depth Perception: ability to judge distance and space relationships. Field of Vision: ability to see peripherally. Accommodation: ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus.

Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.

Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is rarely required to perform the following activities:

Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
