About the Position:Title: Substitute High School Math TeacherReports to: PrincipalWhen Needed: February-May, 2023FTE: Long-term substitute, appx. 10 weeksNorthwest Yeshiva High School is seeking a long-term substitute Math Teacher for February-May of 2023. The Math Teacher will be responsible for teaching one section of each of the following courses: Algebra II, Analysis of Functions, and Calculus I. - The teacher will be given units to cover in each course and will be responsible for developing materials for appropriately covering these units. The teacher will be responsible for differentiating instruction to all students regardless of previous math exposure or learning differences. Class sizes are small and range from 7-15 students. -Schedule of Classes: Monday9:40-10:25 Algebra II10:30-11:15 Calculus I2:05-2:55 Analysis of FunctionsTuesday10:35-11:20 Algebra II12:55-1:40 Analysis of FunctionsWednesday9:40-10:25 Algebra II10:30-11:15 Calculus I3:10-4:00 Analysis of FunctionsThursday9:40-10:25 Algebra II10:30-11:15 Calculus IFriday10:50-11:35 Calculus I12:05-12:55 Analysis of Functions -About Northwest Yeshiva High School:Northwest Yeshiva High School (NYHS) is a coeducational, accredited Jewish High School, educating teens from a wide geographic area in the Seattle area and a variety of Jewish backgrounds. Located on Mercer Island, NYHS empowers students to become curious, resilient and virtuous citizens of the world by developing into sophisticated thinkers who take ownership of their ideas with passion and intellectual honesty. This mission comes alive in our neighborhood setting on Mercer Island where we serve grades 9-12 in a vibrant, dual curriculum. Our diverse faculty bring varied life experience and passion to their content areas and instruction. Our guiding principles are intellectual curiosity, student agency, and a commitment to the common good. We are a small school with 42 students currently enrolled; this contributes to our family-like atmosphere where all students are known and seen. -Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain and help focus the school's mission, vision and values.
  • Teach 45-60 minute classes to 9th - 12th grade students.
  • Promote and advance the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical well-being of the students during math classes.
  • Implement and adapt curriculum using best practices in mathematics instruction, including differentiation to meet the needs of all students.
  • Coordinate and collaborate regularly with other classroom teachers about curriculum and students.
  • Communicate with parents as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records in Schoology. -Required Education & Experience:
    • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in mathematics, secondary education, or a related discipline.
    • Math teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level
    • Teaching certification preferred -Successful candidates will have the following personal and professional attributes:
      • Desire, interest, and enthusiasm for working with high school-aged students
      • A willingness to incorporate social-emotional learning competencies (social awareness, relationship skills, self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making) and project-based learning into the subject matter
      • Strong organizational and communication abilities
      • Strong judgment & decision making skills
      • Ability to work effectively with all constituent groups - teachers, parents, students, and administrative teams
      • Experience with addressing student behavior
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Proficient at working in a Google Drive environment and confidently learn new technology
      • Ability to work and communicate well with students, families, faculty, and staff within the community
