The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an
outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 2. The field of
research for this position is engaged in Experimental
Neuropathology, Geroscience and Neurovirology. The goal is the
investigation of the infectious-disease (HSV1) etiology of
Alzheimer's disease and on the contribution of aging-related
factors to Alzheimer's disease.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Direct maintenance of mouse colony experiments, breeding and
genotyping; perform and manage mouse studies
b) Perform highly specialized animal procedures (e.g. HSV
inoculation, behavior testing)
c) Record keeping, data collection and analysis
d) Generate periodic reports of work
e) Major involvement with lab management and supervision of junior
researchers in the lab
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in sciences or related field.
2 year of experience in:
Mouse behavior testing, animal colony management and husbandry,
small-animal survival procedures to administer viruses, supervision
and instruction of junior staff and undergraduate researchers in
the lab, coordination with other research staff to deliver joint
effort for the lab's scientific goals (integrate contributions of
different team members for larger projects).
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum
qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
Increased supervision of junior staff and students. Preparation of
datasets for conferences and publications. Management of
administrative aspects of taking in new personnel (e.g. safety
orientations, planning and generation of student schedules, getting
access to the lab's building and the lab specific resources).
