Cornish College of the Arts is looking for a Vice President of Finance & Budget (VPFB) to join our executive leadership team to bring vision, leadership, and strategic planning for the College's fiscal operations. The VPFB reports to the President and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet to provide financial insight and sound fiscal policy, and to ensure the budget supports the College's strategic plans.The mission of Cornish College of the Arts is to provide students aspiring to become practicing artists with an educational program of the highest possible quality, in an environment that nurtures creativity and intellectual curiosity, while preparing them to contribute to society as artists, citizens, and innovators.Begun in 1914, Cornish College of the Arts offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in the performing and visual arts and a Bachelor of Music degree, along with year-round public programs and extension courses.The College's founder Nellie Cornish, and the many teaching artists who have followed her, believed in education through exposure to all of the arts. This approach continues to inform the College's curricula and community involvement today. Our holistic approach to education promotes experimentation, discovery, and innovation, giving artists the creative intelligence they need to thrive in their disciplines and beyond. The College supports and engages the many cultural, personal, and spiritual facets of our community.Responsibilities1.Oversees all fiscal operations for the College, providing leadership in the development and implementation of operating and capital budgets in support of the College's short- and long-term goals.2.Serves as a member of the President's Cabinet, participating in major decision-making for the College. At the President's request, attends meetings of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of the Board.3.Manages the financial affairs of the College, including:monitoring College-wide budgets, providing monthly financial reports, preparing biannual financial statementsreviewing contracts for liability and contractual commitments with the assistance of legal counsel as neededmaking recommendations to the President and the Board of Trusteesstaffing the Board Finance and Audit Committees4.Provides supervision to the Information Technology Department, reviewing budgets and management/employee issues.5.Collaborates with other College leaders to develop short- and long-term strategies and financial plans consistent with the College's strategic plan and in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and practices.6.Measures College compliance with approved operating plans and reports results to all levels of management, auditors, federal agencies, and accrediting agencies. Prepares information and reports to the President. At the President's direction presents information and reports to the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board of Trustees.7.Serves on the management team for collective bargaining with employee organizations.8.Working with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, oversees management of operating, endowment, and investment accounts consistent with donor-required and other fund restrictions.9.At the President's request, negotiates agreements for the College with outside organizations including banks, investment managers, vendors, consultants, etc., monitoring their performance and approving payments.10.Other duties as assigned by the President.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree plus six or more years of progressively responsible experience or combination of equivalent education and experienceKnowledge of fund accounting (including restricted, unrestricted, and temporarily restricted funds and assets), project management, and non-profit processes and proceduresExcellent verbal and written communication skillsSupervisory and senior management experienceAbility to manage multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlinesDemonstrated ability to build and nurture collaborative relationships with a broad variety of constituenciesCommitment to Cornish's values and to the education of emerging artistsCommitment to cultural pluralism; demonstrated ability to relate well within a diverse campus communityProficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of accounting/financial systemsMust pass background and credit checkPreferred QualificationsMBA degree and/or CPAKnowledge of federal and state policies and procedures related to nonprofits and higher educationExperience working in higher edExperience working in an arts environmentApplication ProceduresFor consideration please submit the following to careers@cornish.edu.1.Cover Letter2.CV/Resume3.Cornish Employment ApplicationStatement of Difference and InclusionCornish commits to demonstrating respect for individual expression and integrity; to promoting the equality of opportunity and rights of all persons within the community and to actively encouraging and maintaining the representation and inclusion of diverse cultures and backgrounds within the student body, faculty, staff and curricula.We believe that diversity refers to a number of human qualities and characteristics.
