Job Description - Senior Environmental Management Specialist - Energy (000198) Location : Downtown Seattle Organization : Maritime Env & Sustainability Employee Status : Regular Schedule : Full-time Posting Expires : Apr 5, 2021, 6:59:00 AM Minimum Salary : 86,308.00 Midpoint Salary : 107,885.00 Some of what you'll be doing: You will support the Port of Seattle's (Port) Maritime Environment & Sustainability Department's (ME&S) efforts to reduce maritime transportation and building energy use, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions and evaluate new environmental opportunities. Your work will involve collecting, analyzing, and managing data to inform maritime environmental projects, programs, policy and investments. You will also work across Port departments and with other agencies to maintain compliance with all energy requirements, support environmental communications, and capture grants that support the ME&S's work. You will manage and lead the Port's maritime building energy program, including implementation of the Port's energy conservation, building electrification, and renewable energy strategies, and be responsible for compliance tasks.

  • You will gather, synthesize, and apply environmental data for implementation of the Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy (NWPCAS), the Port's Maritime Climate and Air Action Plan (MCAAP), the Port's Sustainable Evaluation Framework (SEF) policy and development and implementation of the Seattle Waterfront Clean Energy Strategic Plan (SWCESP).
  • You will serve as the data analysis and management lead supporting NWPCAS, MCAAP, SEF and SWCESP development and implementation, including analyses of maritime fuels, emissions, infrastructure investments, building energy use, green building options, new business models, policy, and other social, environmental, economic impacts on the Port.
  • You will leverage data to inform programs by providing comparative investment alternatives, cost benefit analyses, lifecycle cost analyses, data forecasting, carbon analyses and policy analyses.--
  • You will help capture and manage grants related to ME&S projects.
  • You will conduct primary research on maritime strategies, policy, technology and other emerging topics.
  • You will provide presentations, reports, and communications to internal and external audiences including using data visualization techniques to effectively communicate.--
  • You will work as part of a team, collaborate with other Port staff, engage and maintain relationships with staff and external stakeholders, lead meetings, and represent the Port.
  • You will support or lead a variety of other climate change, air quality or energy-related projects as part of the Maritime Sustainability team within the ME&S.--
  • You will have broad exposure to other Port work projects, opportunities to apply creative thinking and innovative approaches, and to grow professionally.-- Who you are: Two years of experience may be substituted for one year of education:
    • Experienced - You have five (5) years of experience supporting or managing complex environmental/energy projects and/or planning processes and you have experience managing and applying complex environmental data to support programs.--
    • Educated - You possess a Bachelor's degree in environmental science or policy, engineering, sustainability, economics or a related field.
    • Desired - We hope you have an advanced certification or equivalent experience in climate science, environmental science or policy, energy, transportation, green building, business, economics or another related field; we hope you have strong quantitative abilities in climate or financial modeling, experience writing or managing grants, conducting environmental or economic analyses; we also hope you have project management or planning experience related to port operations, the maritime industry, transportation industry, alternative fuels, building energy efficiency, and/or renewable energy.
    • Project Manager - You are organized, detail-oriented, and have experience managing or implementing complex projects where you demonstrated your successful ability to coordinate, support, or manage multi-disciplinary environmental, engineering, scientific, financial, policy, and/or planning staff and consultants.--
    • Scientifically-Minded - You are knowledgeable about climate science, energy management or policy, or green building, and you are highly skilled in gathering, analyzing and leveraging data to inform decision-making. You also have some knowledge of low and zero carbon energy sources, environmental analyses, lifecycle emissions and cost analysis, and can conduct primary research on emerging topics.--
    • Data Analyst - you have experience collecting, analyzing, modeling, and interpreting data, a high level of mathematical ability, strong problem-solving skills, and advanced abilities using data management software, such as MS Excel.--
    • Effective Communicator - You have highly developed verbal and written communication and presentation skills and the ability to communicate about complex issues clearly and succinctly to a wide variety of audiences, including to leadership and the public.--
    • Collaborator - You are comfortable working as part of a team, sharing ideas, and leveraging the expertise of those around you to advance your work. This also includes building strong rapports and relations inside and outside the Port.--
    • Strategic Thinker- You can analyze the impacts from complex regulations and laws (existing or emerging) and strategically incorporate those into a planning process. You can apply creative thinking and innovative solutions to develop and implement strategies and policies that advance the Port's strategic goals. IND123 What else you need to know :
      • Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.--
