Seagen is seeking a Vice President and head of Core Research and Technology (CRT). CRT is a multidisciplinary group that is responsible for integrating deep expertise of biological systems, technology platforms, and foundational assay systems to inspire the creation of innovative cancer therapeutics. The CRT department currently comprises antibody discovery, bioanalysis, computational biology, in vitro and in vivo pharmacology, laboratory automation, protein expression/purification and conjugation, spatial biology and systems biology teams. The head of CRT will be accountable for building and leading a highly collaborative team toward increasing the sophistication, capacity, and efficiency of generating therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. Leadership of the CRT group is a key strategic and operational role and, as a member of the Research Leadership team, the head of CRT will work with other senior leaders in Research to drive strategy and advance the Seagen drug pipeline.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively across Research to drive new initiatives and innovations that create novel therapeutic platform technologies and investigational therapeutics
  • Lead the development and growth of the CRT department, including establishing the scientific vision, implementation of new technologies, and management of team personnel
  • Partner with Research Leadership Team (RLT) to drive prioritization and adequate resourcing of CRT teams
  • Accountability for appropriate resourcing and timely delivery of requested materials and data from all core departments to enable efficient workflows
  • Ensure seamless transfer of knowledge and processes from research to process sciences and translational sciences
  • Promote innovation in the core functions with delivery and application of new technologies to facilitate the assessment of new drug targets, technologies, and mechanisms of action
  • Work closely with Research groups to balance priorities between clinical-stage programs and pre-IND programs
  • Hire, develop, coach, and manage the performance of a team of scientific and technical staff, including director and senior director level leaders
  • Promotes a culture of professionalism and collaboration focused on the patient outcomes in alignment with company goals and values Qualifications:

    • Ph.D. in Life Sciences with minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience and at least 10 years of leadership experience leading diverse teams of research professionals through the discovery process while driving strategic innovation
    • 7+ years leading and directly managing teams. Ability to give feedback, coach, mentor, and develop employees
    • Track record of significant and innovative biological discoveries in academic, biotech, or Pharma settings
    • Deep knowledge and broad expertise within the core group's functions and underlying scientific technologies
    • Well informed on all areas of drug development from target validation through pre-clinical research
    • Experience building and leading high-functioning scientific teams, with the ability to give feedback, coach, and mentor
    • Strong business acumen in drug discovery and development and experience in prioritization based on company goals and strategy
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to absorb information and succinctly relay critical information to relevant stakeholders
    • Ability to collaborate across teams and variety of disciplines
      Prior experience of scaling and process improvement in a high-throughput production environment, experience in lean six sigma a plus
