design the curated tools software developers need to deploy their
state-of-the-art applications on Kubernetes. The Runtime Program is
a critical part of our recently launched Tap Application Platform
(TAP). It is a series of efforts that straddle the boundaries of
Open Source Software and proprietary environments. Some of the
specific technologies you'll design for include Knative, a
serverless application deployment tool that allows users to focus
on the code they are writing, and Data Streaming, a service that
processes data generated continuously by different sources. Your
job is to empower end-users to understand and take advantage of
these much-anticipated application capabilities.Sound exciting?

the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work
toward completing? -
- Simplify complex domain problems for end-users by developing a
mastery of these concepts and refining the domain models
- Identify gaps in our current understanding of our runtime
efforts in conjunction with engineering and product management
- Conduct user research with existing customers, potential
partners, and Open Source software community members.
- Lead design thinking sessions to take advantage of everyone's
good ideas
- Define the Runtime Program's end-to-end user experience -
- Design all of the artifacts associated with the program
- Partner with your engineering and product development partners
to envision the strategy that ultimately shapes the Runtime
program
- Collaborate with other members of the design team to ensure a
cohesive TAP experienceThe Work: What type of work will you be
doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be
performing regularly?VMware is a highly collaborative environment,

your product and engineering colleagues every step of the way. As
the design lead for the program, you will:
- Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders and design to
take products from concept to launch
- Lead user experience design to help solve complex problems from
concept to delivery in an agile environment
- Understand the involvement and impact of the Open Source
Software community on the program
- Learn continuously - from the users through generative and
evaluative research, and educate your product team on research
practices & UX interview techniques -
- Research and synthesize user needs to help conceive, define,
test, and evolve solutions for our users across various mediums and
experiences
- Verify and improve on low and high-fidelity designs through
reviews, validations, and formal usability testing with
end-users
- Design and participate in co-creation design workshops with the
design team and cross-disciplinary partners
- Advocate for users and deliver user outcomes in a dynamic and
agile work environment
- Bring a systems-thinking lens to your design work
- Help identify new opportunities to solve valuable user
problems
- Keep abreast of competitor products and industry trends
- Define end to end workflows that tell simple user storiesAs a
Product Designer for VMware, you will work with a globally
distributed design team to apply your craft to various products,
services, and experiments. Our culture provides the opportunity to

help our design team drive cohesive user experience across GUI,
API, CLI, IDE, and other interfaces. Other work will be
speculative, generative explorations that you carry out in
collaboration and partnership across the organization to flesh out,
frame, and help prioritize solutions in an ever-evolving and
complex, often ambiguous, problem space.What you'll be doingYou
will drive out user experience strategy and execution for our
Developer Experience program area within the Developer and
Application Platform (DAP) pillar of MAMBG. The DAP pillar's
purpose is to help developers build great software with a modern
supply chain and get it to production faster and more often.--- We
are responsible for developing and delivering tools, frameworks,
products, and communities that support the needs of enterprise
application builders and operators.Within DAP, you will work with
our Runtime team. Their mission is to provide the ability for
developers to utilize a curated selection of tools that enable them
to run their applications on Kubernetes more efficiently. -The
Runtime program splits into a series of efforts that straddle the
boundaries of Open Source Software and proprietary environments.
Some of the specific technologies you'll design for include
Knative, building-block-based software, and Data Streaming, a
service that processes and merges data generated by different
sources. -In this role, you will be responsible to:

a Product Design Manager situated within the TAP. You will work
closely with a Staff Level Designer who oversees the comprehensive
TAP experience. You will have access to a broader team of
designers. They are supportive, work with growth mindsets, and help
TAP, and other programs evolve.Your engineering and product
management partners will work closely together with you. They are
eager to unpack and solve issues dogging our customers and looking
for ways to separate ourselves from the competition. They will help
you understand some of the more technical aspects of the platform,
as well as keep you abreast of business goals and changes in
