Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's education programs inspire students in STEM, promote scientific literacy, and prepare the next generation of diverse scientists to work at the frontiers of life sciences. We are committed to developing inclusive and culturally proficient programs for the advancement of equity in science education.Our Science Education (SciEd) pre-baccalaureate education programs for high school students, undergraduates, and secondary science teachers leverage the expertise of an exceptional faculty and support staff to engage underrepresented high school and college students in biomedical research. Our programs provide access opportunities, resources, and support to affect systemic educational change. -Our -student summer programs and internships -reach over 130 underrepresented high school and college students each year. Students join a supportive scientific community, build networks, and advance their -career/professional goals. An additional 500 students visit our training labs each school year, engaging in hands-on labs as part of tours. The -Science Education Partnership -program provides professional development and support to teachers reaching 15,000 students/year and has relationships with over 575 science educators.The SciEd programs fall under the Office of Education and Training (OET) and the Senior Vice President for Education. This role reports directly to the Senior Director, Science Education.This is an interim position until November 1, 2022.This role works closely with the Senior Director of SciEd to advance the strategic initiatives of the pre-baccalaureate programs.Programs: Support initiatives to strengthen, expand, and deliver pre-baccalaureate programming that is aligned across pre-baccalaureate training levels and content areas.Cross-program Integration: Work with SciEd staff to implement strategic initiatives across Fred Hutch pre-baccalaureate programs, especially efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Identify operational efficiencies between programs and help develop solutions. -ResponsibilitiesPrograms

  • Set project goals and timetables, ensuring that all research and administrative activities are completed.
  • Support existing SciEd programs and work with the education team to implement new programs.
  • Support programming for interns who are not associated with existing education cohort programs.
  • Represent the SciEd programs to the broader community and foster relationships that support our educational equity mission.
  • Identify other areas of need throughout Fred Hutch's pre-baccalaureate education pipeline and initiate improvements in alignment with strategic plan. -Cross-program Integration
    • Direct initiatives to harmonize education and outreach efforts across the center to and with OET partners to present a consistent, quality experience and maximize resources in priority areas (e.g., with groups historically excluded from science).
    • Create systems for coordinating and supporting incoming education-related requests from external parties.
    • Manage internal and external communications regarding cross-SciEd efforts in order to increase awareness of, and support for, our educational programs.
    • Collaborate with OCOE and Government & Community Relations to provide a unified approach with external partners.
    • Other responsibilities as required.In addition, the Program Manager will:

      • Take responsibility and initiative to set and meet the goals, objectives and obligations while representing the mission, visions and values of Fred Hutch and our Science Education programs.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
        • BA/BS in life science or science education related field.
        • Minimum of three years post-master's or five years post-bachelor's related experience in a research or educational setting.
        • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
        • Data management and analysis experience. -Preferred Qualifications
          • PhD in molecular biology, cancer research, or science education.
