At Virginia Mason Franciscan Health you will find the safest and highest quality of care provided by our expert, compassionate medical care team at 11 hospitals and nearly 300 sites throughout the greater Puget Sound region.ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for planning, directing and evaluating the systems, operations and resources for patient care services/activities for the critical care departments of the assigned hospital campus in accordance with established business objectives, clinical/professional standards and applicable regulatory requirements. An incumbent manages activities through subordinate management staff and ensures consistent performance/integration of patient care processes across assigned clinical departments.Responsibilities also include: 1) developing and administering the budget for the assigned functions; 2) ensuring high quality patient care and that quality assurance/regulatory/accreditation standards are followed; 3) developing/facilitating performance/process improvements to improve clinical/service outcomes, 4) monitoring daily patient care/satisfaction and physician concerns and resolving escalated issues; and 5) coordinating/integrating patient care services with finance, quality, safety/risk management and human resources functions to ensure compliance with all standards and guidelines. An incumbent collaborates extensively with hospital executive management in promoting operational excellence towards the standardization, integration and enhancement of the continuum of services available.Job duties require considerable knowledge of the specialized principles and practices related to health care management in order to evaluate and make viable recommendations in support of clinical effectiveness, service delivery and organizational performance improvement. Performance improvement efforts cover a variety of areas, and an incumbent must be sufficiently knowledgeable to recognize important synergies and opportunities in clinical/service outcomes, cost containment, patient safety/satisfaction, risk reduction and regulatory compliance.As a part of our organization, we currently offer the following additional benefits:

    • Voluntary Protection: Group Accident, Critical Illness, and Identify TheftQualificationsBachelors degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or related field, graduation from an accredited school of nursing, and six years of progressively responsible related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, including three years in a supervisory or management capacity. Clinical knowledge as a Registered Nurse in critical care or a similar specialty area required.An equivalent amount of additional qualifying work experience may be substituted for up to two years of the education requirement.Masters degree in a related field is preferred.Job Knowledge/Abilities:
      • Knowledge of the content, intent and application of regulations, policies, standards, operations, and requirements applicable to the business function(s) under designated scope of authority.
      • Knowledge of the principles, practices, regulatory requirements and CHI Franciscan Health (CHI-FH) policies applicable to budget administration, resource/expense control, employee supervision and performance management.
      • Knowledge of the principles, practices, standards, techniques, requirements and tools/equipment applicable to nursing in a clinical specialty area (ie. critical care).
      • Knowledge of the healthcare industry in general, and of the vision, values, strategies, objectives, policies and systems of the organization.
      • Knowledge of nursing care interventions, procedures and delivery systems.
      • Knowledge of infection control, safety and risk management standards as relates to the assigned work units.
      • Knowledge of the concepts and methods for analyzing and enhancing performance and productivity of the assigned work units.
      • Ability to convey information effectively in verbal and written communication, and through group/business presentations.
      • Ability to understand financial and/or operational reports, analyze data, identify improvement opportunities and implement effective responses.
      • Ability to identify budget variances, compliance deficiencies and/or systemic weaknesses and implement timely corrective action to forestall or remedy.
      • Ability to plan, manage and evaluate the work of subordinate staff.
      • Ability to strategize, develop, implement and evaluate business plans, initiatives, standards, budgets, and policies/procedures.
      • Ability to keep abreast of current and changing laws and regulatory standards and their impact on clinical operations and activities.
      • Ability to develop and implement effective policies, standards and procedures relating to matters under defined scope of responsibility.
      • Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
      • Ability to use automated systems/applications/software and office equipment at an acceptable level of proficiency.
