Position Purpose
Working closely with Advancement and marketing colleagues across
the University, the Assistant Director for Advancement
Communications develops, supports, and implements internal and
external marketing and communications strategies and projects to
increase awareness of and private support for the University of
Washington.
The Assistant Director supports brand development and
fundraising/campaign priorities, working with fundraising and
communications teams throughout University Advancement to develop
compelling marketing and communications strategies to cultivate
pride and motivate investments in the UW.
This position reports to the Director for Advancement Marketing and
Communications Strategy as a key member of the University Marketing
& Communications (UMAC) Brand Strategy Team. This position will
frequently collaborate with Advancement and marketing colleagues
across the University, senior leadership, and external
stakeholders, including donors and volunteers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy Management & Implementation
--- Develop and execute targeted marketing and communications
strategies and implement tactics that support UW fundraising
priorities, campaigns and engagement goals, such as specific
marketing campaigns and project-based marketing projects.
--- Project manage, write, edit and evaluate digital engagement for
Advancement communications, including the campaign website,
e-newsletters, reports, and other electronic and digital
communications. Analyze the results, making recommendations for
increased effectiveness. Work with UMAC digital marketing team on
digital marketing campaigns targeted at donors, students, alumni,
volunteers and other audiences.
--- Manage internal Advancement communications, including
newsletters, People and Culture communications, and other
operational announcements and communications. Support Advancement
executive communications as needed.
--- Act as account services manager for central fundraising teams
and University campuses, colleges, schools, and units to
collaborate and develop strategies that increase support for
University initiatives and fundraising priorities.
--- Handle and maintain confidential materials and information.
Other Duties
--- Hire and manage a marketing student intern.
--- Participate on task forces, committees and other forums that
address the role of communications in the advancement program.
--- Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, marketing, advertising,
communications or related field and three or more years of diverse
experience in marketing/communications or related field.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum
qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
--- Demonstrated ability to conceive, implement, and evaluate
marketing strategies and goals. Experience with fundraising
principles a plus but not required.
--- Strong writing skills.
