Introduction to the Enterprise Data Strategy TeamAt Liberty
Mutual, we are on a data journey. We have been hard at work
assessing our data capabilities across business units and building
a perspective on where enterprise data investments could help us be
more efficient or effective. What we learned is that winning with
data is a strategic imperative for all business units and
departments to compete; however, data teams have been working
independently to elevate their game to a "Foundational Level" and
beyond with varying success. Building "Enterprise Level"
capabilities would add value in two ways: (1) by leveraging
enterprise context and expertise to drive efficiency and
effectiveness across all business units and (2) by potentially
unlocking new value by executing select use cases at the enterprise
level. Given our learnings, we are excited to announce the creation
of an Enterprise Data Strategy Team. The focus of this team, in
tight partnership with our enterprise data technology partners,
will be on maturing our data fundamentals (especially in the areas
of data strategy, data governance, and data talent) and partnering
with our Business Unit data teams and others to drive progress on
Enterprise use cases.Job Description: What would you do?As we look
outward and forward, we can see that the future of our industry is

data at scale using advanced capabilities to unlock value. Help us
great ready for this future by joining the company's first ever
Enterprise Data Strategy Team to guide the right investments in
data to service the firm. In this position, you will work across
teams to establish clear, comprehensive, domain-oriented data
governance responsibilities, goals, and paths forward - seeking
common where we have value to do so. This role will require
strategic thinking, deep collaboration, and an excitement to
navigate ambiguity to build new strengths at
Liberty.Responsibilities: What would you accomplish?
- Data Strategy - Owns, manages, and socializes the data
governance roadmap to mature fundamentals, ensuring alignment and
buy-in across the organization, participating in workstreams to
mature fundamentals as needed.
- Data Governance - Captains the Data Governance workstream to
develop common standards and taxonomies, as well as assemble
playbooks that Business Unit teams can take down and apply to their
domains, then inform us where does or does not work. Use that
feedback to refine standards, clarify lines of accountability, and
advance the support model to the business units. The scope of this
work includes advancement of:
- Define data domains and communicate aligned roles and
responsibilities with this logic.
- Provide guidance on what good looks like for domain ownership,
data stewardship, etc.
- Synthesize and distribute playbook(s) for data management
standards and best practices (e.g., Enterprise Data Policy), with
alignment and sign-off from data leaders.
- Develop appropriate tracking to measure progress across
standards/policies.
- Work with Business Unit data teams to ensure data capabilities
are built for the business unit, including ensuring domain
governance and management is up to standards needed for business
unit and enterprise needs.
- Coordinate with the Data Tech partners to ensure standard tools
are in place to manage and use data.
- Data Quality - Ensure data quality standards and blueprints
clearly reflected in enterprise policies and standards.Skills: What

- Be an effective collaborator and influencer to align on
taxonomies, standards, and playbooks.
- Demonstrate past success at advancing data governance and data
management capabilities at large organizations.
- Be a proven thought leader who is highly collaborative and
adept at navigating matrixed organizations.
- Be adept at designing processes that promote collaboration and
input across teams.
- Strong written and oral communication skills required
- Experience in communicating recommendations to senior business
leaders preferred
- BA/BS, or relevant work experience, in Computer Science or
related field preferred
- MBA or advanced degree in Mathematics, Computer Science,
Engineering, Economics, or other quantitative discipline strongly
preferred
- 7-10 years of experience working in coding methodologies and
design principles, particularly in open source tools and
