Job Description:

Overview Company is seeking a Chief of Staff to support a high performing, innovative, and diverse Research organization dedicated to an array of IND-enabling and early research projects against a broad range of cancers and human diseases through our industry leading CAR T cell and TCR platform. We are looking for someone who is strategic, understands the challenges, both scientifically and operationally, of generating IND-enabling studies, and who knows the complexities of building a world-class research pipeline. Of course we also need someone who is used to working in a highly matrixed and cross-functional organization, against tight deadlines, and with world-renowned T cell biologists, Immuno-oncologists, bioinformaticians, and business leaders alike. We need someone who can roll up their sleeves to help inform and/or make key operations and research decisions. Most importantly, we want a highly visible partner and advocate for our Chief Scientific Officer serving as a conduit to the Research Leadership team and key leaders across the organization. Responsibilities In the position of Chief of Staff the individual will be responsible for a number of critical functions across the Research and Development organization. The individual will own and drive essential research infrastructure & operations functions. The individual will collaborate with Corporate Development to draft Research corporate goals and objectives. The individual will work closely with Research leadership to ensure that the groups are tracking against Corporate and Research goals. The individual will work closely with the pipeline team to track progress and allocate resources appropriately across the Research organization. The individual will own and manage a research portfolio database; this includes but is not limited to creating and automating custom reporting tools. The individual will be responsible for the management of sponsored research agreements (SRAs) with academic institutes and partners. This includes working with our partners to schedule collaboration review meetings and produce agendas/minutes. Maintain/monitor multi-year SRA budgets and work with legal and business users on the contract review/approval process for SRAs. The individual will work closely with the Finance, Legal and Contracting groups, serving as the primary contract management point of contact within Research. This will include ownership of the research budget and support for the quarterly forecasting process, monthly SRA updates, FTE reports/timesheets, and other requests as needed. Qualifications PhD or MS in Biology or related discipline (Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, etc.) and 5 – 10 years of Research and Research Operations and/or Project Management experience Extensive scientific expertise in T cell biology, cell therapy, Immunology, Oncology, and/or Immuno-oncology Deep experience navigating the complexities of a high performing Research team in medium to large biotech or pharma companies is essential Significant expertise with large budgets across multiple units, monthly tracking and reporting, and working with counterparts in Finance, Accounting, and Legal ensuring complete data accuracy and integrity Experience with academic collaborators and managing SRAs, MTAs, and all associated systems to track and keep contracts up to date and accessible to the team Strong communication, leadership, and an innate ability to collaborate and build relationships is critical Commitment to integrity and transparency Thorough understanding of all the best tools and processes to build scalable systems and strong instincts for automation: we want someone who thinks about using technology and self-service Tour of duty through all significant areas of Research, Research Operations, Finance, or Accounting Willingness to do what needs to be done: It's a down-to-earth, hard-working team Zeal for innovation: we want to figure out a better way of doing things, to be innovative in how the company meets its goals …this will take curiosity, creativity, guts, flexibility and ambition.
