PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: Bristol-Myers Squibb is seeking an enthusiastic, self-driven individual to join its innovation focused, multi-disciplinary team to assist in formulation and cryobiology efforts and advance new, enabling technologies. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert for formulation, cryopreservation and storage of cells. They will consult with their manager in the design, execution, and analysis of experiments to drive the development of cryopreservation solutions and new technologies for adoptive T-cell therapies. This position requires positive, collaborative teamwork abilities, clear organizational skills and excellent prioritization to help drive cross-functional initiatives focused on creating novel products and manufacturing platforms. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Education: Ph.D. in Immunology, Biology, Engineering or equivalent with 0-2 years of technical experience or B.S./M.S. with equivalent experience in in primary cell cryopreservation Experience Ph.D. in Immunology, Biology, Engineering or equivalent with 0-2 years of technical experience or B.S./M.S. with equivalent experience in in primary cell cryopreservation DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Key responsibilities include: Assist in identifying and implementing relevant existing and novel techniques and technologies required for successful formulation, freezing, storage, shipping and thawing of cell therapy products Identify root cause of cryopreservation and formulation issues, and provide actionable feedback to improve processes Design and execute experiments supporting optimization of cryopreservation protocols and formulations Identify flow cytometry, ELISA, cell-based assays and other appropriate analytics to support cryopreservation optimization efforts Collaborate with Research, Process Development, and external partners to design, develop and implement cutting-edge process technologies and platforms within a GMP autologous cell therapy manufacturing process. Participates on, and may lead cross functional teams or projects. Clearly communicates ideas and results to stakeholders via written and verbal formats Preferred Skills: Strong expertise in cryopreservation of mammalian cells, preferably primary human lymphocytes Working knowledge of immunology or cell biology and analytical techniques including flow cytometry and cell based assays. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment, meet deadlines, prioritize work across multiple projects Ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams, meet deadlines, and organize and prioritize work Expertise in statistical experimental design (DOE) with a proficiency in JMP, R, or SAS Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills Ability to learn new technologies and acquire knowledge quickly in the rapidly expanding adoptive T-cell therapy field WORKING CONDITIONS (US Only): This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the person assigned to this position. This position is expected to work in a Biosafety level 2 laboratory and a typical office environment. At least 95% of the work is performed indoor in a temperature-controlled facility. The lighting level, air quality, and noise level are typical of an office environment. Work inside the laboratory involves operating typical equipment found in a biotechnology. They may include, but is not limited to, handheld pipettes, centrifuges, liquid nitrogen storage, and other devices ranging in size from benchtop scale to a small room. This position is expected to handle biohazardous material found in a Biosafety level 2 environment derived from humans or other animals. Some work with hazardous chemicals is also expected. Work inside the office involves using a standard laptop or desktop computer. This position is expected to be able to lift and carry to 40 pounds. Approximate percentage of time split between seated and walking/standing are 60% and 40% respectively.
