Hematologics, Inc. is excited to announce an opportunity for a Clinical Scientist - Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) & Molecular Analysis at our Seattle waterfront laboratory. The Clinical Scientist - Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) & Molecular Analysis at Hematologics will focus on working with the NGS team and in that role will contribute to all aspects of NGS clinical testing, NGS quality control programs, NGS assay validations, in addition to translational and/or basic science research. The ideal candidate is dedicated to high-quality and industry-leading clinical laboratory services and patient care. The position reports to our Molecular Laboratory Director.

Role: The Clinical Scientist - Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) & Molecular Analysis time allocation includes a combination of wet bench lab work, clinical analysis, reporting, alongside research and development (R&D) activities. Participation in the preparation of manuscript(s) to be published in peer-reviewed research journals is expected. Personnel management is not included in this role.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • NGS wet lab: sample processing, instrumentation (quality control, validation) and assay development. Quality improvement projects will also be included in this component
  • NGS analysis and reporting: This position is responsible for the analysis and reporting of both clinical and research NGS cases
  • Research and development: R&D activities includes basic or translational science and the associated wet lab, analysis of NGS data, presentation of research and writing manuscripts for publication
    Qualifications
    • Ph.D. in a physical or bioscience with a minimum of 1+ years of NGS-specific experience, or an M.S. with 3+ years of NGS-specific experience, or a B.S. with 15 years of laboratory experience, with 8+ years of NGS-specific experience
    • Proven ability to work successfully on multidisciplinary teams
    • Extensive experience with next generation sequencing library preparation and data analysis is required. Also required is experience with other relevant molecular techniques: PCR, nucleic acid extraction, Sanger, qPCR
    • Ability to independently manage ongoing projects effectively as well as clinical work with impeccable record keeping skills and meticulous attention to detail
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Strong critical thinking ability as well as proven troubleshooting skills
    • Ability to present work/progress, draft reports and SOPs, and facilitate the implementation of new technologies and assays for clinical use
    • Deeply committed to continuous learning and staying abreast of scientific advances
    • Oncology or hematopathology experience is a plus
