become a Surgical Technician.Pacific Surgery Center is a
multi-specialty Surgery Center offering a learning experience in
many specialties such as: ENT, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, GYN,
Plastics, GI Endoscopy, Pain Management, Podiatry and more. You

experience. The Operating Room is a fast-paced environment that
offers opportunities to work with new and advanced technologies and
work alongside some of the best Operating Rooms nurses and Surgeons
in our community!The program will be a robust 6-week training
program consisting of virtual modules, self-guided study, and
hands-on labs in our Surgery Center. You will be assigned an
experienced preceptor who will help ensure that you are meeting the
requirements needed to be a highly trained professional working in

teams!Accountabilities / ResponsibilitiesJob Relationships:Directly
reports to the Nurse Manager. Work collaboratively with all center
staff. May take direction from other center managers, Medical
Director and/or Administrator. Occasional contact with vendors,
surveyors, civil authorities, and others.Summary: Responsible for
the preoperative planning and preparation for surgical
intervention, individualized to meet the needs of each patient and
his/her surgeon, applying age-specific guidelines. Scrubs on all
surgical specialties, aides in the preparation and discharge of the
surgical patient, including patient transport and transfer.
Participates in Q.A. improvement activities, meets certification
and educational requirements and demonstrates knowledge and
compliance with the AST Standards of Practice and AORN's Standards
and Recommended Practices.Essential Functions, Duties &
Responsibilities:Regular and predictable attendance is
required.Prioritizes patient care needs effectively. Assists in
patient care as appropriate. Trouble shoots problems, acts as a
resource person. Is self-directed, as reflected by taking needed
action before being asked. Seizes opportunities and does more than
the minimum required.Participates in on-going development of
professional knowledge. Collaborates with members of the health
care profession and other citizens in promoting efforts to address
the health care needs of the public. Actively seeks professional
development by participating in community and/or professional
organizations.Identifies and reports to his/her manager, conditions
that may exist and could negatively affect the health, safety and
well-being of patients or coworkers.Assists other members of team
with terminal cleanup of room, in readiness for next patient.Checks
supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure; maintains
knowledge of surgical preference (scrub, gown, and glove). Sets up
sterile table with instruments, sutures, blades, electrosurgical
equipment, suction, and solutions needed for procedure.Observes
patient for unusual responses. Identifies unusual or emergency
situations and utilizes sound judgment to correct and institute
established procedures, in a calm and efficient manner.Counts
sponges, needles, and instruments with circulator prior to
procedure and before incision is closed. Checks trays and equipment
for completeness. Counts contain signature of surgical technologist
on operative record. Events are factually documented and records
are legible and complete. Unusual events are reported to
circulator.Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during
procedure. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal
sterilization. Helps to drape the sterile field. Prepares sterile
dressings. Follow rules of asepsis; conscientiously carries out
contamination control measures. Manages contaminated instruments
and supplies during and after operative procedure to prevent spread
of infection. Verifies exposure to sterilization process and
integrity of sterile packaging. Opens supplies aseptically,
according to Association of Operating Room Nurse (AORN) standards.
Anticipates surgeon's needs, such as instruments, sponges sutures,
and places them in his/her hand in a manner that the surgeon need
not divert attention from the operative field, as reported by
feedback from surgeons. Displays dexterity in the use of surgical
instruments throughout the procedure. Before each surgery, checks
autoclave tape for type and evidence of sterilization process.
Check expiration dates before use. Checks wrappers or packaging for
patency. Checks for 'turned' indicators in all steamed trays, as
observed by Supervisor.Before each surgery, checks all labels of
solution or drugs placed on the field with the circulating nurse.
Supports and enforces infection control practices, including body
substance isolation and the use of personal protective equipment.
Complies with infection control policies and procedures. Uses
proper transfer techniques and body mechanics.Appropriately
collects all specimens for laboratory analysis, as ordered by the
surgeon.Demonstrates ability to 'breakdown' room and deliver used
equipment/ instruments to the dirty area in accepted manner.
Disposes sharps in proper receptacle. Offers suggestions/solutions
for improvement of current methods of room breakdown.Maintains
professional standards for conduct, patient care and patient
confidentiality. Reports any unethical conduct or practice of
health care team members to proper authority.Collaborates
effectively with other team members. Supports, encourages and
assists others. Seeks compromise and (win/win) resolutions to
conflict, as observed by Supervisor and peers.Keeps surgical
procedure manuals or cards that enumerate surgeons' preferences
current. Reviews cards, tray before procedures. Notifies circulator
of surgeon's request for changes/additions to preference
card.Checks all equipment for working order and reports or corrects
unusual conditions. Inspects emergency equipment and supplies for
condition and quality on a daily basis. Consistently meets patient
needs in the most cost-effective manner. Opens supplies only as
called for; double checks costly supply needs with surgeon and
circulator. Substitutes appropriate materials, if item is on back
order.Other duties as assigned. QualificationsRequired:High school
diploma or GED certification1 year previous experience in
medical/healthcare facilityStrong ethical and moral character
