Job Title: Registered Nurse - NICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years of NICU experience required License: Valid Registered Nurse license required Certifications: NRP, BLS Must-Have: Experience in caring for extremely premature and premature patients Ability to care for gestations down to 32 weeks or greater than 1500 grams Experience with NC, HFNC, CPAP, NAVA, and conventional ventilation equipment Proficient use of feeding pumps Ability to titrate drips such as BP drugs, TPN/D10, and Insulin Experience with monitoring and reading strips Description: The NICU features a Level 2 designation with a capacity of 20 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3, depending on acuity and staffing. Patients commonly include those diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, feeding intolerance, respiratory support needs, sepsis or meningitis, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, and hyperbilirubinemia. There is no presence of nurse aides on this unit. Neonatologists are available 24/7. Respiratory therapy equipment includes HFOV, HFJV, and conventional ventilation. There is monitoring equipment on the unit, with nurses responsible for interpreting strips. Shifts typically consist of three 12-hour shifts per week, following a four-week scheduling cycle. Weekend requirements may be necessary, and holiday coverage is individualized based on scheduling needs. Floating may be required to pediatrics for care of NICU graduates or for providing one-on-one support for behavioral health patients up to 12 months of age. Scrub color for this unit is royal blue. Unit-specific orientation is provided over one to two shifts. The cancellation policy allows for one shift per two-week period. Experience in a trauma level 3 care setting is essential. This role is situated in an acute care environment.
