Job Title: Patient Placement RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (09:00 - 21:30) Experience: 3 years of ER triage experience License: Current state nursing license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: High level ER triage skills Description: This position requires high-level ER triage skills and three years of experience. This is a 12-hour shift from 09:00 to 21:30. There may be times when the caregiver may be asked to fill in for an alternate shift if needed. This is considered a patient-facing position, although there is no direct patient care. The caregiver will perform electronic chart assessments and determine unit placement based on the assessment. The Patient Placement RN is responsible for high-level assessments and quick initiation of level of care decisions for patients waiting for placement in an inpatient setting. A critical goal is to ensure high-quality, individualized, cost-effective patient placement. The role ensures accurate admission status by demonstrating initiative and effective decision-making. The Patient Placement RN coordinates functions associated with level of care determination and placement. Collaboration with other departmental staff is required to divert patients to a more appropriate level of care and ensure timely discharges, resulting in available beds. Collaboration with pre-admission care coordinators, transport coordinators, physicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary team members is essential to define and achieve optimal placement outcomes. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend.
