Job Description:

Northwest Center is looking for a knowledgeable, creative and open-minded professional to grow our Infant Mental Health programming. The Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist will be an integral member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team of early intervention therapists, educators and family resources coordinators. We provide services to a diverse caseload of children, aged birth-to-three, in their homes and community settings throughout Seattle. Infant Mental Health and Equity underpin our work and we are looking to expand the depth of services to better support the emotional and social well-being of children and families in our programs. The Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist will work primarily to support our NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit)-to-Home and CHERISH (Children Encouraged by Relationships in Secure Homes) teams, in addition to providing guidance for families in the early intervention program. They will also be part of the IMPACT program, a new service of Northwest Center Kids, dedicated to supporting inclusive practices in child care settings throughout King County. We appreciate that we are looking for a diverse skill set, there is a potential for more than one position. Position Summary: * Works collaboratively as a member of the early intervention team to design and develop a foundation of infant and early childhood mental health support throughout Northwest Center Kids.

  • Is a member of the NICU- to- Home team. This team initiates services just before or just after families exit the NICU, with the purpose of supporting a smooth transition from hospital to home
  • Committed to understanding current systems and resources for families of children who have experienced a hospital stay and creates a system of supports for parents/caregivers based on individual need.
  • Provides support and consultation to the CHERISH team to meet the needs of children and caregivers within the child welfare system, with an expectation to become CHERISH informed and trained.
  • Performs developmental assessments and screenings for children and makes appropriate recommendations to families and providers, as well as referrals to community resources and services.
  • Designs and implements individual treatment plans; prepares progress reports; reviews medical reports; and maintains accurate records for each child
  • Provides mental health supports for parents/caregivers including, but not limited to: in-home individualized IMH support; in-hospital IMH support (as appropriate); parent/caregiver support groups; and parent/caregiver education groups.
  • Acts as a collaborative member of the IMPACT team to provide training, education, resources and ongoing support to child care providers who partner with Northwest Center Kids, in efforts to foster inclusion in the classroom setting.
  • Supports the development, implementation and oversight of individual inclusion plans for partner agencies in alignment with the IMPACT service delivery model and Northwest Center (NWC) philosophy.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of training and consultation services for partner child care providers and other community-based agencies.
  • Develops supportive relationships with co-workers, partner agencies, and families/caregivers.     • Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education, Clinical Social Work or Behavioral Sciences or related field from an accredited college or university
    • At least two years related experience working with young children, and families
    • Certificate in Infant Mental Health from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of related work is preferred
    • Eligible to apply for level 2, 3 or 4 Infant Mental Health endorsement through WA-IMH
    • Experience working with children 0-6 years old
    • Demonstrated knowledge of child development ages birth through six.
    • Thorough understanding of infant and early childhood mental health.
    • Clinicians with competency in Spanish language or languages other than English preferred
    • Current Washington State Driver's License with proof of automobile insurance and daily access to a reliable vehicle.
