Glacier Fish Company is currently the third-largest at-sea
harvester of Alaska Pollock in the Bering Sea. The company has
grown to include multi-species groundfish operations through its
ownership and management of North Star Fishing Company which
combined represents a total of seven vessels.
The Vessel Recruiter is the HR point of contact for the vessel and
crew for everything from employee issues, travel, staff planning
and recruiting. Responsible for ensuring adequate crewing of the
their vessels, including daily communication to anticipate and plan
for crew needs. Is responsible for administering the employee
recruiting and selection process for the vessel assigned to them.
Works with the entire HR team to ensure all vessels are adequately
staffed year round.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Responsible for full cycle recruitment for vessel positions.
Review and evaluate applications; coordinate and conduct
Make employment offers to selected individuals based on company
hiring procedures and standards.
Deliver new hire orientation program ensuring company policies and
safety programs have been effectively communicated to all new
Coordinate all reference checks, new hire paperwork, physicals and
drug screens for newly hired individuals and returning personnel on
an annual or as needed basis. Ensures all documentation is in
compliance with regulatory and company standards.
Promote and ensure that all human resource programs are implemented
effectively and within company guidelines.
Demonstrate and promote respectful, positive and direct
communication among vessel employees and managers. Monitor and
report to HR Management regarding any employee needs, morale issues
or employee relations concerns to maintain strong employee
relations with vessel crew.
Ensure all contracts and extensions offered to crew members are
complete and accurate.
Coordinate with assigned vessels department heads and Captain to
arrange crew changes in an orderly and cost effective fashion.
Arrange travel and lodging as necessary for crew members in route
to / from the vessels.
Ensure HRIS systems are up to date and accurate.
Crew member unemployment: attend hearings, track call logs and
complete open claim forms for crew members working on assigned
Conduct exit interviews of personnel for employee relations
evaluation purposes; report information to Management.
Must be available to crew members and vessel after hours for travel
and emergency needs.
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
1-2 years' experience high volume recruiting required.
Experience managing employee travel preferred.
Experience working in the Seafood Industry preferred.
Must have a strong understanding of HR laws and regulations.
Highly proficient in Excel and the Microsoft Suite.
