About the teamThe Zillow Group's Search team helps millions of people search and find the home of their dreams. This team manages several backend search services that provide fast access to all property information, including the core search of sale and rental properties listed on the market. It drives innovation by showing relevant and personalized results to our customers, using updated data in near real-time. It is a lean team that believes in innovation, collaboration, accountability, and transparency.About the roleWe seek a passionate and creative Senior Software Engineer to build and scale our backend core search platform, which powers Zillow searches. This person will work on tackling challenging problems in the information retrieval domain and will continue to innovate in core search areas such as Indexing, ranking, search relevancy, infrastructure, search application development, and Saved Search.
This role has the opportunity to work with large-scale user saved search, property data, and various tasks such as streaming processing pipelines and data services related to the search platform behind our real estate site and mobile applications.This includes the opportunity to: -

  • Create highly visible and modern backend search products, and drive engineering excellence
  • Architect, design, and develop highly scalable backend services to provide a continuously improved search experience
  • Work on meaningful initiatives to help consumers find their homes and have your work experienced by millions of customers.
  • Design data algorithms, web services, and data pipelines
  • Collaborate across teams to build great search products
  • Work on building search & data infrastructure for ranking and relevance related to the property search and saved search. Data pipelines that measure the performance.
    -This role has been categorized as a Remote position. "Remote" employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.In Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City the standard base pay range for this role is $149,400.00 - $238,600.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City and may not be applicable to other locations.In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.Who you are
    • 5+ years of software development experience with high proficiency in Python, Java, Scala, or other backend equivalent languages.
    • Passionate about building and maintaining high-quality software that solves meaningful real-world data-driven problems at scale
    • Experience with architecting & building API, microservice & highly available services.
    • Experience with architecting and building infrastructure in cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP
    • Familiar with data processing systems like Spark / MapReduce, Kafka, Streaming, etc.
    • Familiar with Git, Gitlab, Maven, Jenkins, or other CI/CD pipelines used to automate build and deployment
    • Passionate about learning emerging search technologies & systems.
    • Strong skills in troubleshooting applications in LinuxAdditional Skills:
