a Client Systems Administrators.
The UW Department of Pediatrics is dedicated to improving the
health of all children by educating physicians of the future,

Under the general direction of the IT Manager and Technical
Operations Lead, the Client Systems Administrator is responsible
for client systems management and endpoint support for the
Department of Pediatrics constituencies. They centrally manage and
support the department's endpoint computing devices, software, and
supporting video conferencing and collaboration technology in the
newly constructed community hub and in other conference spaces in
the department with a focus on enhancing security and ensuring
compliance with UW computing policies.
This position is a main point of contact for computing and network
issues for faculty and staff in the Department of Pediatrics and
plays a pivotal role by supporting a heterogenous computing
environment (Windows, MacOS, Linux) and managing endpoint device
lifecycles in a complex network environment. They are responsible
for resolving or delegating client requests to other team members
and have demonstrated skill in communicating technical information
to people from diverse backgrounds in a friendly and understandable
manner.
The Client Systems Administrator also encourages end user adoption
of modern cloud-first communications and productivity tools like
Microsoft Teams, Zoom, WebEx, SharePoint and other Microsoft 365
tools in support of remote and hybrid working scenarios, include
the development of documentation, training guides, or videos.
The position must manage modern toolsets and determine the best
methods for centrally managing endpoint devices (end-user's
computers, phones, tablets, peripherals, and research computing
equipment) in a modern remote-first working environment allowing
for the central management of operating systems deployment,
software deployment, system security updates, and asset management
functions regardless of the geographic or network location of the
computing device. This position must implement these complex
server-based management systems and manage the daily operation of
the system. They must develop and modernize systems and solutions
to ensure the ability to successfully remotely support faculty,
researchers, and staff needs regardless of their location. IT
operations in the department are uniquely complex due to our
numerous affiliations with other healthcare and research
organizations including Seattle Children's Hospital, Seattle
Children's Research Institute, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research
Center, and other non-UW Medicine affiliated institutions where
computing, infrastructure, and security requirements are
incompatible with the department, UW, and UW Medicine. This
position must carefully navigate this complex computing
landscape.
The department is positioning itself as a remote-first working
environment. This position supports the department, its leaders,
faculty, and staff by taking primary responsibility in promoting a
standardized centrally managed secure endpoint computing
environment and enabling successful computing interactions from any
location by ensuring standards are documented, implemented, and
executed in the management of end-user computing devices and
research equipment. Computing devices in the Department of
Pediatrics may contain sensitive protected data (e.g. HIPAA, Human
Subjects, FERPA, and other) and this position ensures compliance by
securing this data on the endpoints and keeping it safe from
compromise.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Endpoint Computing Device Management and Support - 30%
---Independently respond to, resolve, or re-route IT service
requests to other team members or organizations.
---Provide endpoint computing device (Windows, MacOS, Linux)
hardware and software support to staff and faculty including the
deployment and decommissioning of computing devices and
peripherals.
---Responsible for administering the IT asset management system
ensuring accuracy, including modifying the database structure and
fields and developing standard and ad-hoc reports.
---Independently develop and document process to migrate computing
devices from the Pediatrics Active Directory domain to the UW NetID
domain.
---Develop and maintain computing endpoint device and peripheral
lifecycle management process including developing and maintaining
standard computing configurations, evaluating new inventory and
asset management systems, and ensuring secure disposal of equipment
and data.
---Develop support standards and solutions for shared touchdown
spaces and successfully address issues related to hybrid and remote
work technologies.
---Determine best methods for installation, operation, migration
and decommissioning of specialized research workstations and
equipment.
---Develop and modify code (PowerShell Bash scripts) to perform
configuration changes to endpoint devices
Client Systems and Server Administration - 50%
---Manage end-user devices using MS Endpoint Configuration Manager
(MECM) and JAMF Pro in a distributed shared environment.
---Develop managed printer service for the department with focus on
increasing network security including the creation and management
of centrally managed print servers and queues.
---Manage software distribution, software updates, and operating
system updates on end-user devices including creating reports and
remediation strategies for devices that are out of compliance.
---Develop automated data workflow to pull data from MS Endpoint
Configuration Manager (MECM) and JAMF and import into the IT asset
management system.
---Manage user accounts, Active Directory client computer objects,
group policies and workstation configurations in accordance with
security and administrative policies. Ensuring compliance with user
account lifecycle standards.
---Collaborate and develop solutions with the Department's Windows
and Linux systems administrators.
---Install, configure and maintenance of small local area networks
and firewall devices for research computing.
---Engage vendors and escalate issues to them when necessary.
Video Conferencing - 10%
---Determine technical and user experience requirements for
collaboration spaces to ensure successful use of multiple video
conferencing platforms (Zoom, WebEx and MS Teams) calls in meeting
and conference spaces.
---Independently develop training and determine best platform for
delivery for new Pediatrics community hub and other collaboration
and video conferencing spaces.
---Evaluate scheduling solution options and deploy system for
scheduling shared collaboration and video conferencing spaces.
---Manage technical aspects of the day to day operation of video
conferencing spaces and report and engage the AV vendor to resolve
issues when necessary.
Training and Documentation - 10%
---Analyze support trends to determine documentation and training
needs.
---Develop and manage documentation library for technical guides
and training materials.
---Create short training guides, videos and other resources for
end-user training.
---Create and update internal IT documentation and knowledgebase
articles.
---Document processes and standard operating procedures.
---Other responsibilities as determined by leadership.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
---Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management,
or related field.
---2 years of experience of supporting Windows and MacOS end-user
computing devices in an Active Directory environment.
---2 years of experience supporting Microsoft Office/365
products.
---2 years of experience with videoconferencing products e.g. Zoom,
WebEx, MS Teams.
---1 year of experience coding with PowerShell and/or Bash
scripting.
---1 year of experience with Windows Server technologies and
operating systems.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum
qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration.
Working Conditions
---Ability to travel to all Department of Pediatrics work sites
when required including Sand Point, Seattle Children's Hospital and
Springbrook locations.
---Work schedule is primarily day shift hours. Some occasional
off-hours or weekend work may be required.
---This position is primarily on-site initially but will have some
hybrid working opportunities after the initial training period.
---Must be able to regularly lift 40 pounds.
