UW Compliance and Risk Services provides professional services and
thought leadership in substantive and structural compliance, risk
financing, risk consulting, and claim and litigation management to
all University of Washington academic and administrative units.
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Business Systems and
Technology Analyst.
Under the general direction of the Compliance and Risk Director,
Privacy & Special Projects, the Business Systems and Technology
Analyst provides analytical and specialized support for office-wide
technology needs and development, and project management and
support for goals, initiatives and projects identified by
Compliance and Risk Services. Responsible for a administration of
specific CRS systems and secondary responsibility for other CRS
systems, work within cross-functional teams to understand, identify
and document business needs, assess alternatives and options, and
develop business cases and solution proposals that support decision
making among process/project owners, and develop inclusive
solutions that balance trade-offs and benefits among process
partners. Document functional requirements, user interaction
requirements, non-functional requirements, system capabilities, and
specifications. Organize, prioritize, validate, and manage
requirements. May also provide user training.
The Business Systems and Technology Analyst works with heads of CRS
programs and within cross-functional teams to understand, identify,
and document business and technology needs, assess alternatives and
options, develop business and technology solutions and proposals,
and provide needed support and assistance to help ensure the
success of CRS programs and projects. This position's key
responsibilities include technology and data support for CRS
programs and deliverables, and assisting with project coordination,
project strategy development, research and analysis tasks, ensuring
high quality team deliverables and outcomes, development and
maintenance of essential data systems and technology solutions, and
assistance with the development of metrics and reporting.
This position will have a critical role this position plays in
managing/supporting CRS systems (primary on the Claims/Event
Management System currently Riskmaster) which provides a method for
managing UW litigation and the tracking of expenditures and
reserves for the UW captive insurance company as well as tracking
events that have regulatory requirements or involve risk to the
University - the future Claims/Event Management System with
interface with Workday; the Equipment Insurance System, the
self-insurance program run by CRS that offers low-cost coverage to
University departments for owned, leased or borrowed equipment with
values up to $500K (currently covers 9,695 items valued at $52.6M)
this system is impacted by Finance Transformation as it internally
bills other departments for premiums; secondary for the Title IX
training program (Title IX is a 1972 federal civil rights law that
prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in schools, colleges,
and universities. Other laws, including Title VII, the Violence
Against Women Act (VAWA), and Washington State law also prohibit
sex and gender discrimination) this is federally required for all
students and staff; conducting hearings for the UW Hearing Officer;
and assisting CRS staff with all technology-related needs to
perform their jobs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Analysis, Guidance, and Consultation of CRS Business/Technology
Systems
--- Direct administration, support, and maintenance of CRS business
systems (primarily the Claims/Event Management System, currently
Riskmaster and the Equipment Insurance System); investigate and
analyze current state business processes and system landscapes and
architecture; capture, evaluate, prioritize and understand business
needs and translate them into business process and system
requirements.
--- Consult with, guide, and direct CRS teams (Claims, UCIRO, Risk
Financing, and Compliance Services) to develop better uses of the
Claims/Event Management System and other CRS business systems to
enhance effectiveness and efficiency; critically evaluate
information gathered from multiple sources and reconcile conflicts;
assess benefits and change impacts to be derived from systems
improvements and quantify impact to team.
--- Manage technical components of website; actively manage
software licenses and user permissions;
--- Assist CRS staff with all technology-related needs; provide
ongoing technical support and assistance required to conduct
hearings; and the Title IX training program.
Project Management
--- Provide support to and assist with project coordination,
management, and support of CRS programs, particularly with regard
to technology components and solutions;
--- Work independently to manage key components of assigned
projects-includes defining tasks, managing the work, and being
accountable for the deliverables of assigned components.
--- Use independent judgement to determine appropriate escalation
and resolution of issues within program structure
--- Function as an integral part of departmental teams to
accomplish CRS objectives, support management initiatives and
process improvement projects, and participate in relevant
institutional initiatives and projects while working proactively
and collaboratively to identify technology solutions and resolve
technology issues and concerns;
--- Provide ongoing project and technical assistance for CRS
programs, activities, and initiatives;
--- Other project support and assistance as assigned.
Information and Data Analysis and Reporting
--- Assist CRS staff with complex data manipulation, analysis, and
report creation using the Claims/Event Management System reporting
tool as well as creating Tableau exhibits, Enterprise Data
Warehouse extracts and analysis, Equipment Insurance System
queries, Workday report analysis, and other reporting needs.
Other Duties
--- Provide backup for other technology support positions.
Requirements include:
--- Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, information
technology, information systems, or a related field.
--- Five years professional experience in technology services or
business systems or equivalent;
--- Ability to use a variety of financial and data analysis
tools;
--- Project management experience;
--- Proficiency with MS Office applications, databases, and related
automated systems;
--- Strong customer service orientation and quick response to
requests;
--- Proven analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
and an eye for detail;
--- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively;
--- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and
collaboratively, and to establish positive working
relationships;
--- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize work as needed,
effectively manage competing priorities, and accurately complete
highly detailed and time sensitive work;
--- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
--- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions;
--- Self-motivated and focused with a positive attitude;
--- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work well with people
throughout all levels of an organization.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum
qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration.
Desired:
--- Experience in higher education, government or the public sector
supporting technology and project needs;
--- Appropriate certifications from relevant professional
organizations and societies;
--- Claim management and reporting systems administration;
--- Business Intelligence or similar data mining, process analysis,
performance benchmarking, and descriptive analytics;
--- Basic level of knowledge of SQL and mySQL scripting;
--- Web development experience using Wordpress or another content
management system.
