In this role, you will focus on enhancing our query engine with a particular emphasis on the Iceberg table format and efficient scans of various file formats. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technology in the big data ecosystem.What you'll be doingDesigning and implementing features for Dremio's query engine with a focus on the Iceberg table formatOptimizing file scan operations for various file formats, including Parquet, Avro and othersCollaborating with members of the query planning and query execution teams to ensure seamless integration of features across the code stackWorking with and contributing to open-source projects like Apache Iceberg, Parquet and ArrowMaintaining and enhancing compliance with the Iceberg table format specification.Conducting performance tuning and benchmarking to enhance query execution speedUnderstanding and reasoning about concurrency and parallelization to deliver scalability and performance in a multithreaded and distributed environmentParticipating in code reviews and providing constructive feedback to peersWhat we're looking forB.S., M.S. or PhD in Computer Science or in a related technical field5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on database systems, query execution or related fieldsStrong programming skills in an object oriented language such as Java or C++Understanding of database internals, query planning, distributed systems, concurrency control, data replication, and storage systemsFamiliarity with cloud object stores, such as AWS S3, ADLS or GCS.Experience with Apache Iceberg, Parquet, AVRO and/or DeltaInterested and motivated to be part of a fast-moving startup with a fun and accomplished teamDesire to learn: You can stand your ground as well as be mentored by your teammatesBonus points if you haveExperience working with and contributing to open source projectsWhat we offerMedical, dental and vision insurance -401(k) PlanShort term / long term disability and life insurancePre-IPO stock optionsFlexible PTO16 hours of volunteer time off12 company paid holidays, including JuneteenthRemote work optionsPaid parental leaveEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Biannual swag surprise**Certain benefits are only allowed to full-time Dremio employees and may not be the same across all locations. The base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $225,000 per year. The base salary actually offered to a successful candidate will take into account various relevant and non-discriminatory business factors including, without limitation, the candidate's geographic location, job-related experience, knowledge, and skills, and education, as well as internal equity considerations. A successful candidate may also be eligible to earn additional compensation including commissions and/or bonuses.Return to Office PhilosophyWorkplace Wednesdays - to break down silos, build relationships and improve cross-team communication, Gnarlies who live within a 1-hour commuting distance (one-way) to a Dremio office come to the office.
