Amazon Manager eXperience (AMX) Science Generative AI Engineering team combines the talents of science and engineering to develop and deliver solutions that measurably improve the lives, wellbeing, and value of work for Amazonians. As a Software Development Manager (SDM), you will lead your team of SDEs and collaborate with economists, academic scholars, machine learning scientists and other SDEs across the company to develop, test, and deploy services that implement a wide range of machine learning models and utilize Gen AI services. A successful candidate will have a passion for innovation, interest in latest technology, and excitement about working in a high-impact domain. We are looking for a Software Development Manager who is customer obsessed, and thrives in a fast-paced environment that requires strong technical and business judgment, solid communication and project management skills. You know how to help engineers navigate priorities and communicate clear expectations with customers. You should be knowledgeable about the architecture of distributed systems and software development life cycle. Due to the interdisciplinary nature and breadth of the areas of interest, the ideal candidate will coordinate across many internal and external teams, and provide visibility to the senior leaders of the company with their strong written and oral communication skills. We need individuals with demonstrated ability to learn quickly, think big, execute both strategically and tactically, and motivate and mentor their team to deliver business values to our customers on time. They have creative and startup mindsets, and are always excited to take on new and ambiguous projects. - 3 years of engineering team management experience - 7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience - 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience - Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations - Experience partnering with product or program management teams - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy - Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
