We’re looking for an Engineer experienced in sediment management, sediment remediation, and shoreline redevelopment with at least 7 years of experience to join our expanding sediments practice in the Seattle, WA. This position is well-suited for a talented individual who is interested in contributing to innovative and challenging projects from initial investigation to remedial design, permitting, and construction stages. Apply your engineering skills to projects involving contaminated sediment dredging, capping, insitu stabilization, processed dredge material, water treatment, sediment sampling and remedy performance monitoring. More experienced candidates are welcomed to apply; engineering responsibilities will be complemented with business development for Geosyntec’s vibrant sediments practice in the Pacific Northwest.

Development of field sampling programs to assess the nature and extent of sediment contamination and/or to evaluate remedy performance;

Evaluation of remedial alternatives including dredging, capping, insitu treatment, and natural recovery that consider shoreline structures and physical processes;

Design and implementation of sediment dredging and capping design remedies, including development of dredge prisms, dredge surfaces, cost estimates, material volumes, transport and disposal;

Sediment capping design and implementation for treatment and armoring;

Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications; reviewing and managing written document production;

Task and project management, including planning and implementing project scopes, participating in meetings with clients and regulatory personnel, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability; and

Supporting the Pacific Northwest Region with business development plans, managing and mentoring junior staff, leading proposal preparations, and client development.

Here are some other things you should know about a typical sediment remediation engineer position with Geosyntec:

Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants

Fieldwork: Up to 20%

Overnight travel: Up to 20%

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline relevant to contaminated sediment management and remediation (e.g., environmental, civil, geotechnical). [required]

Advanced degree in an engineering discipline relevant to inwater sediments or coastal resiliency (e.g., environmental, civil, geotechnical). [preferred]

Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in Washington. [required]


At least 7 years of related, demonstrable experience in sediment management, remedial design, feasibility study, dredging & disposal design, and cap design. [required]

Demonstrated strong interest in sediment/shoreline management and remediation. [required]

Strong oral and technical writing skills. [required]

Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. [required]

Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. [preferred]

Valid U.S driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. [required]

Specialized experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

Chemical fate & transport;

Dredged material evaluation and management;

Design &/or construction of sediment management systems & methods;

Coastal processes and engineering;

Management of sediments associated with ports and harbors, pulp & paper, manufacturing, or petrochemical industries;

Contaminated sediments projects and regulations;

Strong project management experience; and

Knowledge of the West Coast projects, clients, competition, and market trends are desired.
