Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Director, Security (1.0
FTE, Days) to work in General Medicine Administration at Swedish
Shared Services in Seattle, WA.
The Director of Security is accountable for the management and
regional oversight of Security Services for all Swedish Health
Services locations including hospitals, clinics, and satellite
locations in the Swedish region to protect staff, patients, and
visitors. The Director is accountable for developing and
implementing strategic planning of annual budgets, operational
standardization, daily operations, personnel and financial
activities of Security Services in the Swedish Region. The Director
ensures that the Security Management Plan and security
vulnerability assessment is properly and effectively developed and
implemented in applicable service areas.
In this position you will:
Leads the development and adoption of security best practices,
principles, policies, standards and procedures for the region.
Possesses strong working knowledge of these and act as an expert
reference and leader across the region. Provides regional
leadership and expertise across the area to include hospitals,
ambulatory and urgent care centers, and business occupancies to
include high-risk settings such as behavioral health settings,
emergency departments, pediatric settings, NICUs, Women and Newborn
services. Collaborates with community emergency/law enforcement
response agencies to promote interoperability and coordinated
crisis response and recovery plans
Oversee and ensure quality professional service is provided by
Regional Security staff. Ensures there is an operational
standardized approach to Security.
Develops and maintains effective communication with Security
Managers and other departmental managers and administrators by
encouraging the free exchange of information and ideas.
Assesses needs and develops long-term goals and strategic plans
that address security issues, including new security approaches and
technology relevant to Swedish's vision and values.
Develops and oversees the Security Management Plan; and
functions as an informational and technical expert for the Swedish
regional management team.
Ensures that Security functions and documentation are in
compliance with all regulatory requirements and hospital policies
including, Environment of Care. Responsible for coordinating those
systems necessary for investigation, identification, evaluation,
monitoring, reduction and/or elimination of professional and
general liability risk exposures.
Assumes overall responsibility directly or through delegation
for the training, education and orientation of SMC/SMG personnel in
the areas of Security. Presents in-service education and
orientation as required.
Leads teams and has direct leadership responsibilities for
Regional Security staff. Hires and manages a team responsible for
delivering Security Services for impacted region and service areas.
Assumes overall responsibility, directly or through delegation to
others for the management of Security Services caregivers
including: recruitment, interviewing, hiring, scheduling, coaching,
counseling, mentoring, evaluating, promoting, disciplining and
discharging employees in the Swedish Region.
Promotes and encourages professional growth and development of
security caregivers through the attendance and participation in
in-services, workshops, and seminars.
Participates on system and regional councils and committee's
representing Security Services as appropriate.
Maintains professional affiliations; and attend outside
conferences and seminars. Consults with other security
professionals and organizations as necessary. Maintains positive
and collaborative relationships with local law enforcement agencies
regulatory organizations by sharing information and ideas.
Ensures a secure environment for the patients, staff,
physicians, volunteers, and community through the development and
implementation of a Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP)
and Business Continuity response plan to enable to the Healthcare
System to continue with clinical/business operations should
disruptive geopolitical events, natural disasters, crime and
computer/human errors occur.
Responsible for coordinating all Security Officer Training
including investigation, report writing, risk assessment and
analysis necessary for identification, evaluation, monitoring,
reduction and/or elimination of professional and general liability
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Leadership or
5 years management experience in healthcare security or law
5 years progressive leadership experience in a multi-facility
Current driver license including a safe driving record per
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Leadership or
Additional certifications such as; Master Exercise Practitioner,
Certified Disaster Recovery Planner (CDRP), Emergency Management
(FEMA), Project Management (PMP), Certified Business Continuity
Planner (CBCP) or Associate Disaster Recovery planner
