The Nordstrom Tax Team is looking for an experienced Property
Tax Senior Manager. This position will report to the Director of
Nonincome Taxes and will be responsible for real and personal
property tax for Nordstrom. This position requires a strategic
thinker and self-starter with a strong background in both real and
personal property tax. We are looking for someone who strives for
continuous improvement, is eager to collaborate with a team, and
can work independently to support and drive both internal and
external deliverables, all while ensuring company-wide objectives
are being met.
Responsible for the real estate tax associated with Nordstrom’s
portfolio of U.S. and Canadian real estate, including ensuring
timely tax payments, timely and supported appeals, and aiding in
the strategic efforts to assist with potential tax planning
Responsible for U.S. multistate business personal property tax
compliance and related payments in addition to managing the
relationship with outsource team.
Manage and approve internal and external property tax bill
payments and accounting related to the accrual and forecast
Responsible for analysis, creation and maintenance of annual
Review and approve monthly reconciliations of all property tax
accounts to support general ledger close and forecast
Manage property tax appeals and audits across the U.S. and
Keep abreast of tax law developments and provide analysis of
impacts and recommendations to assist in planning Company
activities, including implementation of potential tax planning
opportunities, as appropriate.
Actively engage with a broader group of non-tax personnel within
the Company, including Accounting and Finance, Corporate Real
Estate, Store Design and legal teams in support of property tax
appeals, audits and administration, as well as with a broad group
of tax technical, external attorneys and consultants.
Identify areas of opportunity in process/methodology and
independently drive and champion change.
Required Education and Technical Skills:
10+ years tax experience, including public accounting or
comparable industry experience.
Bachelor of Science in Accounting or comparable degree,
Property Tax appeal and audit experience, required.
Experience using CCH tax research software, desired.
Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, prioritize and
meet deadlines. Strong core accounting and organization skills,
Experience in performing and/or managing an
outsourced/co-sourced business personal property tax compliance
Analytical and detail oriented with the ability to work in a
fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities in efficient
Advanced Microsoft Office knowledge, specifically Excel,
Sound technical research skills and ability to communicate
technical issues in verbal and written form to any audience.
Desire to perform beyond what is familiar and to seek out new
Ability to tackle issues as part of a team to creatively
collaborate and find solutions.
Positive and enthusiastic with exceptional interpersonal skills
and ability to work with a wide variety of internal and external
Flexible and curious, with the ability to apply on the job
learning to new situations.
