SunIRef:Manu GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under general supervision, matches and downloads bibliographic records and performs other support functions to catalog and process a variety of library materials. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Any of the following duties may be performed. These examples are representative and do not include all specific tasks an incumbent may be expected to perform: DUTIES: Match new items to bibliographic records in the Integrated Library System (ILS). Download bibliographic records from the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) for titles not in the ILS, and add Kitsap Regional Library holdings. Customize bibliographic records following department guidelines. Mark work slips with information for processing, including Dewey Decimal numbers, following department guidelines for material classification. Input original cataloging into OCLC. Perform original cataloging under the supervision of the department manager. Correct bibliographic records. Corrections may be initiated from errors noted by the incumbents and branch staff or by special cataloging projects. Recall materials from branches for reclassification. Reclassifications may originate from problems noted by incumbents and branch staff or from special cataloging projects. Keep statistics on work performed in department: new items added to the collection, old items reclassified, etc. Identify and resolve related workflow and technical problems within established guidelines. Keep written cataloging procedures up-to-date. May train other personnel in the use of library systems and resources. Participate in recommending improvements to increase the efficiency of individual, work unit or system-wide tasks. May participate in the selection of new employees for the department, under the supervision of the department manager. Perform other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance. Ability to learn national and international cataloging standards, OCLC protocol and the Dewey Decimal Classification System. Ability to navigate and utilize the Internet, Integrated Library System (ILS) and other cataloging modules as required. Ability to communicate and instruct effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to perform a high volume of work requiring close attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to establish positive working relationships and work effectively and collaboratively with other library staff. Ability to identify and resolve workflow and technical problems within established guidelines. Ability to use initiative and independent judgment in a variety of situations directly related to the work being performed. Ability to establish priorities and organize workload. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to operate standard office equipment, perform required data entry proficiently and utilize computer software and specialized programs. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a staff member to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to: (CONTINUOUS) seeing, hearing, grasping, handling and manual dexterity. (FREQUENT) walking, talking, reaching, bending, standing, sitting, twisting, squatting, keyboarding and repetitive motion of hands/wrists. (OCCASIONAL) climbing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling and balancing. Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 25 pounds and, frequently, up to 50 pounds. Regularly requires the ability to push, pull and maneuver loaded book carts (20 pounds of push/pull force) on a frequent basis, over an extended period of time. LIBRARY EXPECTATIONS Listed below are expectations of all library employees: Excellent customer service for patrons and co-workers. Knowledge and support of Kitsap Regional Library's principles of intellectual freedom. Knowledge and support of Kitsap Regional Library's policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively within a team. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing information, technology, work procedures and library services. Ability to maintain confidentiality in dealing with patron and/or employee records. SCHEDULE This is a full-time non-exempt position scheduled for 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the supervisor upon hire and may include weekends and evenings. Please note that schedules are subject to change to meet the needs of the library. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE High School diploma or GED, plus preferred three years of library experience or comparable training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the requirements of the job. An AA degree in the Library Technician field may be substituted for up to two years of work experience on a year-for-year basis. BENEFITS & SALARY Kitsap Regional Library has a generous Employee Leave Benefit Program, including vacation, sick leave, 11 paid or pro-rated holidays annually and 1 paid or pro-rated personal holiday. The Library also provides medical, vision, dental, life insurance and Employee Assistance Program participation to qualifying employees. Kitsap Regional Library is a member of the Washington Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Compensation range is $17.73-$23.12 per hour DOE.
