Location: Seattle, WADescription: We are currently seeking a Lead Flight Operations Software Engineer to work for our AMAZING aerospace client! They're doing some amazing work that we know you're going to want to me a part of!Description:As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will be responsible for architecture, development, execution, and management of software enabling flight operations. You will lead an agile team of software engineers to develop ground-based software responsible for managing critical mission functions, including flight/ground system integration and testing, real-time mission operations, mission planning, commanding, mission activity planning and sequencing, telemetry tracking & control, operations training, spacecraft system/health monitoring and operational fault tracking/management.You will work in a fast-paced dynamic environment, contributing innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.Responsibilities:* Lead a multi-element team in the design, implementation, test, verification and deployment of flight operations, safety-critical software architectures, ensuring the success of the overall Ground Data System (hardware/software) supporting space mission operations.* Perform trade studies to determine whether to newly develop software tools in-house, subcontract work to develop tools, or adapt or purchase existing software to perform a particular function.* Perform technical planning, system integration, cost and risk, supportability and effectiveness analysis for ground software.* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers representing flight vehicle systems, mission control infrastructure, operations disciplines and customers (including NASA) to define software requirements, architectures, and designs.* Oversee development of rapid prototypes to prove out concepts and quantify technical risks.* Support flight control software operations responsibilities (maintenance, flaw correction, enhancements) across all phases of the spacecraft life cycle, including spacecraft integration and flight.* Oversee efforts to integrate software components, create and run unit tests, validate on Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop simulators, and release certified software.* Coordinate with mission control infrastructure and mission system engineers to plan, develop, and lead system verification and qualification, to ensure software products that meet system requirements and safety-critical standards.* Lead and contribute to production of technical documentation for software architecture, design, verification plans, user manual and training material.* Establish, document and manage software development processes that meet Blue Origin and customer-required standards to ensure software safety and reliability.* Lead and mentor software development engineers on the team.* Plan and manage schedule, resource, and personnel assignments.Qualifications:* B.S. or higher degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.* 10+ years of relevant space mission related software development experience including 5+ years of experience building and deploying flight operations-oriented ground software.* Experience in leadership of a software development team over the course of the full lifecycle of software development, including system design and analysis, requirement capture and development, software implementation and verification, system integration, qualification, and release.* Experience in software build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, and deployment.* Familiarity with CCSDS standards and implementation of mission operations monitor and control requirements.* Demonstrated software development skills in C/C++ and Python.* Familiarity with Linux environment and comfortable with basic Unix system administration activities.* Experience with software development in mission and safety-critical environments, such as DO-178 or NPR 7150.2 complianceExperience with Linux, GNU toolchain, Python, Labview, MATLAB/Simulink, real-time operating systems, serial communication.* Experience managing project requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, resources, cost and reporting.* Experience interfacing with controls software written in C/C++/Simulink.* Highly organized team player with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills.* Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness from their previous assignments.* Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Desired (but not required):* Experience designing and developing ground software for human space flight operations.* On-console operations experience for space flight, or in other safety-critical operations domains* Experience developing software systems for the following applications:* Telemetry data management, display and archival* Fault monitoring and alarm notification systems* Human command interfaces, command sequencers* Control and scheduling of ground-based tracking and communications stations.* Ground based orbit determination and navigation.* Mission and activity planning and scheduling and timeline display for space missions.* Electronic, distributed team procedure authoring and execution* Space mission visualization, including virtual reality systems* Experience with fault-tolerant software design, human error assessment and human error fault tolerance.* Experience with Guidance, Navigation and Control software integration in an embedded system, and familiarity with flight sensors and actuators.* Experience with spacecraft subsystems and associated subsystem software.* Leadership experience in an aerospace R&D environment.Contact:
