opportunity for a part-time (50% FTE/ 20 hours per week), day
shift, THERAPEUTIC RECREATOR 2.
The Therapeutic Recreator 2 (TR2) will provide therapeutic
recreational services to inpatient rehabilitation patients with
complex conditions or injuries. The TR2 will assess, plan, and
implement treatment programs as referred by a physician.
8 North is a 16 bed Inpatient Rehabilitation unit. We provide
specialized nursing care to patients with functional disabilities
resulting from a variety of medical etioligies: spinal cord injury
or disease (including tetraplegia with mechanical ventilation),
acquired brain injury, stroke, tumor, amputation, and neuromuscular
and musculoskeletal diseases. Patients with medically complex
diagnoses, including those with solid organ, blood and marrow
transplants, and mechanical circulatory support devices (VADs), may
also be admitted.
Perform complex assessments of patients in 8N Inpatient
Organize and lead therapeutic recreational activities both
inside and outside of the Medical Center
Direct the work, train, and coordinate TR students/volunteers in
Assess, plan, administer, evaluate and provide safe therapeutic
recreation therapy for the patients on the inpatient rehabilitation
unit. This includes progression of treatment, establishing goals
and engaging in patient and family education, and assessment and
treatment of a patient caseload ranging from routine to complex
Collaborate with rehabilitation colleagues and management to
identify clinical/program needs
Participate in quality improvement programs
Drive van to transport patients
Graduation from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program AND
18 months of professional therapeutic recreation experience OR
Current and/or Pending NCTRC Certification
Registered in the State of Washington (WA State Dept. of
Current Adult CPR certified
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Occasionally to frequently requires transfer of patients
weighing up to or exceeding 200 lbs needing maximum assistance from
wheelchair to pool deck and back
Requires ability to assist in transporting patients to various
locations on/off the UWMC campus for evaluations and treatments
Requires hand dexterity for manual treatment techniques and to
May be required to do direct lifting up to 40 lbs.
