Facilities and Operations Technician I Administration

The mission of the Allen Institute Administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, Administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the Institute.

We seek an entry-level technician to become a core contributor to our Building Services Team. The Facilities and Operations Technician I position is responsible for day-to-day operations and work order resolution for the 250,000-SF headquarters located in South Lake Union. The facility is a combination of lab and office space with approximately 500 occupants. The Building Services Team strategically supports the organizational needs while providing a high level of customer service and satisfaction for the end-users.

Essential Functions

  • The primary responsibility of this position is to respond to assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner. The overall process will include providing estimated lead time for completion, updates to the requestor as warranted, resolving the work order once the job is complete, and following up with the requestor to ensure satisfaction with the work

  • Provide feedback to the Building Services Manager to aid in resolving non-routine issues or requests

  • Execute on work instructions to complete routine tasks of moderate difficulty

  • Installations of wall shelving, pictures/artwork, wall cabinets, etc

  • Dismantling, assembling, installing, and moving furniture

  • Wall patching/painting

  • Execute on multiple programs with defined processes

  • Responsible for coordination and action of scheduled move/add/change requests for employees and furniture

  • Support the Building Services Manager with preparing the facility for events and supporting internal meeting room configuration requests

  • Perform regular visual inspections of all areas, clearly document any deficiencies, and create appropriate work orders to ensure timely follow-ups

  • Participate in on-call rotation for off-hours emergency response

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Demonstrated experience using standard hand tools and power tools

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Work Order Management System

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 1-3 years experience in commercial, laboratory or industrial facility with increasing responsibility in operations and maintenance

  • Excellent communication, organizational and record-keeping skills

  • Willing to multitask, learn and train on new techniques

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Service Now Work Order Management System

Work Environment

  • Office spaces

  • May enter laboratory environment, including potential exposure to lasers, biohazards

  • Warehouse spaces

  • Data Center

  • Occasional travel to offsite warehouse or other location

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work at heights and from ladders

  • Regularly lift and move up to 30 pounds

  • Ability to regularly walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb ladders

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Rotating evening and weekend on-call coverage

  • This role is currently working onsite and remotely when possible, due to COVID-19 and our focus on employee safety. We continue to evaluate the safest options for our employees
