Our QUALITY IMPROVEMENT DEPARTMENT has an outstanding opportunity for a SENIOR COMPUTER SPECIALIST. The SENIOR COMPUTER SPECIALIST will support the database programming and information technology needs of Harborview Medical Center's Quality Improvement (QI) Department. This individual's work product will be used by frontline healthcare providers, QI staff and faculty, and administrators to improve the quality of patient care.


Provide data analysis and data distribution for multiple projects including Infection Prevention and Antimicrobial Management initiatives and responses

Collaborate with stakeholders to assist in identifying reporting needs

Develop user-friendly tools and reports to enhance operational efforts for quality and safety

Coordinate data gathering and dissemination with stakeholders and QI team members

Support retrospective and real-time data collection from electronic health records, the enterprise data warehouse, and other data sources

Responsible for advanced programming required for the data extraction and reporting needs of the Quality Improvement program

Provide programming linking multiple data sources into usable reports

Contribute to a common analytic function collection

Evaluate and suggest improvement to current data collection methods to support increased efficiency in using that data

Identify opportunities for and proactively structure automation of data and reporting processes

Provide database programming support for Antimicrobial Management, particularly integration with information from other hospitals in our system

Facilitate hospital and system operations in setting and achieving quality improvement goals

Network with our quality counterparts at UWMC on data use, reporting, and data analysis projects with substantial overlap or implications for the broader system


Bachelor's degree or higher in a computer-related field

At least 4 years of related experience or equivalent

Demonstrated skills in working with large databases

Extensive experience in SQL programming

Success with data extraction and report writing

Ability to coordinate information gathering and dissemination within a complex administrative system

Skill in building relationships with colleagues and customers of other specialty disciplines

Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication

Experience with system and data security

Experience with web-based programming languages (eg. ASP.NET, Perl, PHP)

Familiarity with application programming languages (eg. C++, C#, VisualBasic, Java)

Experience in Windows-based server applications

Highly self-directed and creative

Strong customer satisfaction approach


Experience working in a medical environment and working with physicians and health care professionals

Experience developing for data visualization

Passion for problem-solving

Focus on accuracy and alacrity
