Tableau's Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) team is responsible for
engineering and operating Tableau's best in class data platform
supporting 5,000+ global employees. EDP's Technology team engineers
and operates our cloud data lake on Snowflake and several
platform-as-a-service (PaaS) tools used by data engineers,
scientists, analytics engineers and anyone working with data flows
at Tableau. The team develops mainly in Python, owns the full
DevOps lifecycle for our systems deployed on Airlfow, Kubernetes
We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to drive the technology
and design for the data platform. You will lead the design and
development of new features and systems in the platform. In
addition to leading the design, you will be mentoring a small team
of dedicated developers to expand their skills and capabilities.
This role will explore new technologies and architecture, including
cloud data platforms, design as code, microservice API architecture
and designing full CI/CD pipelines for the technology.
Success in this role will be measured by the adoption of our
data platform at Tableau, performance of EDP's systems and
performing the required role tasks including:
- Understand and support the current architecture.
- Expand the design with a Microservice based API.
- Mentor team members and help them grow their own careers.
- Leading development projects from design to deployment and
- Define, track, and analyze performance and uptime metrics for
the Opal data warehouse and the Enterprise Data Platform.
- Handle On Call support as a regular member of the On Call
operations across the team.
- Cloud data architecture and DevOps experience including roles,
security, storage, ingress and egress.
- Python development.
- Database development including table designs, sql code and sql
- ETL or ELT (Extraction Transform Load) development.
- Kubernetes and Docker.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Modular and Service based Architectural Design
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) - IAM Roles and Policies, EKS, S3,
Lambda, Route 53, EC2, Cloudwatch, Cross Account Security and
- Experience with Snowflake or similar MPP database
- Git CI/CD
