A day in the life

  • Set the vision and strategy for the Alexa core platform. Define, build, and launch capabilities to power the Alexa Mobile platform
  • Define use cases, requirements, and prioritization for mobile platform capabilities. Work with partner teams to deliver new, creative Alexa features
  • Learn and be curious about iOS and Android capabilities that can be leveraged for the Alexa Mobile experience.
  • Develop detailed, crisp business requirements and user stories that can be used to create product specifications and architecture for each product and application
  • Manage prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, performance and operational support load
  • Make critical trade-off prioritization decisions for app releases
  • Work closely with engineering teams and program management to deliver products to market
  • Oversee Alexa Mobile's project intake and registration process for internal partner teams
  • Collaborate with domain leaders and process owners to drive continuous improvement to Alexa Mobile's development life cycle

Job responsibilities

Join the team building the mobile experience for Alexa and help us create a world where Alexa is always there to help you on-the-go. The Alexa Mobile Team is looking for a Sr Product Manager, Technical who will help us bring that vision to life by building the platform that powers Alexa Mobile experiences.

As a Sr Product Manager (Tech), you will be responsible for defining and prioritizing features for the core capabilities powering the Alexa mobile app. You will be responsible for the strategy and vision for how these capabilities will be used in the Alexa Mobile app to deliver delightful experiences for our customers. In this role, you will work very closely with Engineering teams as well as partner with adjacent teams to deliver capabilities and experiences. You will also lead Alexa Mobile's Partner Programs which provide Amazonians outside of Alexa Mobile with the resources to effectively drive their Alexa app projects.

This role requires strong technical skills and knowledge about performance and stability, APIs, and platform technologies. It is critical to dive deep with technical teams and work across partners throughout the larger Alexa ecosystem to deliver important features for Alexa. You must have a passion for understanding mobile experiences and how they can be leveraged for Alexa. It is critical that you can work backwards from the customer and think through the translation of customer needs to technical solutions with the help of your engineering partners. Customers love what Alexa can already do. They are even more excited about her future potential. This role requires building strong relationships with our customers, who in this case include partner teams across the Alexa ecosystem.

A successful candidate will be highly analytical, able to work extremely effectively in a matrix organization, have experience working as a technical platform product manager and adept at synthesizing a variety of technologies and capabilities into high quality, simple products and applications that customers love. They will have a passion for process excellence, and a track record of solving complex and persistent business challenges with scalable mechanisms.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with a technical discipline
  • MBA or Master's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of professional experience
  • 5+ years of platform product management experience
  • Experience working on Android, iOS, Windows or other mobile software/applications
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver products and services with three to six month deadlines.
  • Experience coordinating product development cycles and software development schedules across multiple organizations
  • Experience defining, building, and scaling sustainable programs
  • Two years of post-MBA technical product management experience.
  • Technical understanding and experience with mobile app platforms
  • Excitement for building platform capabilities, defining APIs and translating end customer experiences into technical solutions
  • Experience delivering consumer software products and services in a high growth environment.
  • 5+ years of platform management experience with mobile products.
  • Ability to work backwards from the customer experience all the way to the technical capability.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment where continuous innovation is desired.
  • Analytical and quantitative skills, ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases. Ability to clearly communicate these data insights to others.
  • General manager / owner mentality, willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever is necessary.
  • Ability to dive deep in understanding the product, our business, and the competitive landscape.
  • Real passion for mobile apps and customer experiences.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Six Sigma Green or Black belt Certification
