Role Summary

The Data Privacy Director is the sole subject matter expert and thought leader in Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air's data privacy program and aligning the program to corporate strategy and objectives. As an individual contributor, this role designs and implements innovative risk-based privacy solutions to balance data privacy objectives with the customer experience, enhance organizational awareness and promote data privacy as a business driver.

Key Duties

  • As the sole subject matter expert and thought leader in Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air's data privacy program, this role enhances organizational awareness and develops and implements innovative risk-based privacy solutions to balance data privacy business objectives with the customer experience.

  • Defines the long-term strategy for the implementation of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air's data privacy program to align with corporate strategy and objectives.

  • Advises enterprise leaders on Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air's privacy program and defines, develops, maintains, and implements policies and processes that enable consistent, effective privacy practices to minimize risk and ensure the responsible collection, use, and protection of personal information.

  • Assesses financial and operational impacts of privacy initiatives and promotes data privacy as a business driver to large business groups and across divisions.

  • Incorporates competitive benchmarking and industry best practices in the development of the data privacy program. Communicates complex data privacy issues and solutions clearly and concisely.

  • Analyzes, tracks, assesses, and reports on compliance with privacy rules and program effectiveness to executive leadership, including the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors/Audit Committee.

  • Represents the company as a privacy subject matter expert and utilizes external networks to deliver best in class solutions.

  • Identifies industry trends or regulatory changes and engages stakeholders early to develop strategies for resolving conflicting compliance and/or regulatory requirements to minimize business risk and disruption.

  • Leads investigations and responses to customer concerns about data misuse and supports data breach investigation and response activities ensuring that corrective actions are taken to address underlying root causes.

  • Uses data from customer feedback and preferences to define and communicate appropriate data use guidelines for new and emerging programs and initiatives.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 10 years of experience in privacy program, strategy development and implementation, data breach response, privacy risk assessment, legislative analysis and application or related area.

  • Bachelor's degree or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Detailed knowledge and experience with data privacy best practices.

  • In-depth understanding of current privacy trends and legislation.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Extremely strong verbal, written, and public speaking skills.

  • Ability to interface with all levels of management, employees, and executives.

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) Certification.

  • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree is required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Project management experience.

  • IT Security experience.
