Job Summary

This unique position provides brief, home-based intensive stabilization services to the families of children/youth (ages 2-20) with developmental disabilities in King County. Child and Family Intervention Specialist within this program work with the entire family to provide support managing challenging behavior, assisting in building communication skills, increasing safety and structure within the home.

Child and Family Intervention Specialist works directly with families to identify strengths, instill hope and help families develop resiliency. Clinicians who enjoy thinking creatively and working in the community are highly encouraged to apply. This position is part of a small team which includes Parent Partners as well as Behavior Specialists for stabilization within this short-term model.

This is a full time, salaried position. Licensed, experienced supervision and training is available. Hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We require our staff to be available several evenings per week to meet family needs.

This position is at the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to accelerate young people's ability to build safe, successful, and happy lives. Every year, we serve 5,000 children, youth, young adults, and families across King County with programs that aim to strengthen young people's ability to develop to their fullest potential through four strategies: reducing risk factors; navigating systems towards successful life transition; ensuring stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and building competencies and social capital. The Social Impact Center Y's programs include housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment. Many of the young people we serve have had involvement in the foster care, criminal justice system, and/or homelessness systems.

Responsibilities

Prevent out-of-home placement and unnecessary psychiatric hospitalization by providing immediate, short-term, community-based intensive stabilization services. Utilizes evidence-based treatment modalities (specifically the Positive Behavior Support model) to provide child/youth and family intervention services; this includes crisis prevention and safety planning, parenting skills training, behavior management, de-escalation training and brief counseling and case management. Maintain a caseload of assigned clients. Partner with community resources (schools, therapists, wraparound teams, law enforcement, etc.) to support families, and link youth and families to additional resources for long-term support. Develop and implement individual treatment plans in partnership with the child/youth and family that are sensitive to cultural, social, mental health and recovery needs. Responds to emergencies in a timely and effective manner during regular hours. Accurately completes all required paperwork in a timely fashion. Teach families how to facilitate their own recovery, access support groups, utilize effective problem solving techniques and identify community supports. Collaborate effectively with other professionals. Attend provider meetings (Family Team Decision Meetings, school or Wraparound meetings, etc.) in order to meet family goals.

Qualifications

Masters degree in social work, counseling or related field (Including Special Education or ABA). Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered. One or more year post-graduate experience providing short-term mental health services to youth and families from a broad range of cultures and social needs. Registered counselor in Washington. Training and experience in individual, family, and group treatment modalities. Ability to work in a team management approach. Strong organizational skills with an attention to details, timelines and follow-through. Ability to meet with clients at home and in the community, and to transport clients in a safe and effective manner. (Proof of adequate vehicle insurance is required.) Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work evenings and weekends. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
