Systems Engineer- Life Sciences

Looking for a full-time Systems Engineer responsible for the design, implementation and testing of process automation systems projects primarily in the Life Sciences industry.  The position would be based out of our Bothell, WA headquarters executing projects at our new and existing clients’ locations in the area.  We are looking for a talented professional who can assist us in enhancing our customers’ experience with Emerson’s DeltaV control system solution in solving the complex challenges facing our customers in traditional Biopharmaceutical manufacturing as well as the emerging Cell and Gene Therapy markets.  The preferred candidate will have a proven track record in working in biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes and a strong understanding of Batch processing, specifically with S88 and S95 in FDA regulated industries.

Key Job Elements:

  • Utilize customer data (I/O lists, P&IDs, network architectures, control narratives, HMI sketches, instrument databases, loop sheets, and other customer requirements) in the design of control strategy, definition of scope of work, and consultation of technical.
  • Work effectively at different levels with clients and sales teams to assist in definition of business needs and demonstrate our product and services capabilities.
  • Develop General Design Specifications (GDS), Detailed Design Specifications (DDS), Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS), and Validation documentation as required.
  • Configure manufacturing execution systems, manufacturing intelligence tools, process control system historians, and interfaces between these systems and enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Execute projects in accordance with customers’ quality control processes and expectations.
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned by the Engineering Manager


  • Excellent verbal and written English skills to communicate effectively both with clients and internal project teams.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a larger team.
  • Strong organizational skills to contribute to and support multiple projects.
  • Business acumen in a technical environment. Ability to build strong customer relationships and become a trusted advisor to our customers.
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience designing or implementing process automation systems applications.
  • Experience working in Life Sciences industry.
  • Ability to travel within Pacific Northwest
  • Experience with Delta V distributed control system greatly preferred. Other DCS, or PLC, experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with Information Technology principles and topics (network architectures, virtualization, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, etc.) greatly preferred.
  • Experience working in a cGMP regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with complimentary process software: process historians (e.g. OSI PI), ERP interfacing (e.g. SAP or Oracle), Manufacturing Execution Software systems, etc.
