Job SummaryThe Communications Specialist is responsible for actively supporting the communications and fundraising activities of Community Roots Housing. This position works across several departments in the organization and is responsible for expansive content creation. The Communications Specialist works as part of the Community Roots Housing Foundation. Please submit a cover letter with your application. Duties and Responsibilities Helps to implement Community Roots' communications strategy, which includes administering a monthly editorial calendar, conducting resident and community member interviews, producing general content for website, social media, newsletter, and internal communications. Develops effective, targeted communications to various stakeholder groups; collects and prioritizes stories of Community Roots' work and prepares them to be shared on multiple mediums. Drives email campaign creation and supports event marketing. Has a lead role in coordinating the organization's social media strategy. Monitors and responds to comments and inquires on social media platforms.Works with the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict staff, Resident Services staff, and other Community Roots program staff to develop collateral and support their communications needs. Drafts content as needed in support of the Rise Together capital campaign.Creates general boilerplate language for marketing and fundraising appeals and helps to prepare copy for press releases. Works with staff to identify potential media opportunities and stories.Helps manage organization's suite of websites. Maintains process documentation and other internal communication tools, trains staff on usage, identifies new opportunities for system improvements and incorporates them into system documentation.Supports the Senior Manager of Philanthropy and Grants & Philanthropy Manager with writing, submitting, and tracking grant proposals and reports for private foundation, corporate, and public funding sources.Researches public and private grant opportunities to identify potential sources of funding as assigned. Works in partnership with the Senior Manager of Philanthropy and Grants & Philanthropy Manager to develop strategies for funding priority programs and related projects for the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict, Resident Services, and other Community Roots Housing programs and projects.Helps in maintaining Salesforce records of contributors and grants. Generates reports and other data as needed.Supports individual giving campaigns by writing content, weighing in on strategy, and executing board committee recommendations.Supports donor acknowledgment and recognition efforts.Supports events led by Foundation team including annual fundraising events and new building opening celebrations. .

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:Demonstrated excellence in writing and compelling storytelling.Commitment to racial and economic diversity, social justice, and affordable housing.Bachelor's degree OR demonstrated equivalent work experience in a related discipline with a minimum of three years of related experience.Experience generating print and electronic communications, updating web copy and design, and creating public relations messages and collateral. Experience with photography and/or video editing a plus.Excellent computer and technology skills including proficiency with WordPress website management, CRM and email programs, and social media. Experience with analytics, social media tools, marketing, Mailchimp, Wix, and Salesforce a plus.Project management skills.Excellent verbal communications skills.Proficiency in researching, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data.Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized.The ability to operate efficiently and gracefully under pressure of deadlines. Preferred Qualifications: BA degree in communications, journalism, or marketing.Experience in communications at an affordable housing or HUD provider.
