The IT Risk and Compliance Specialist, as a member of the Office of Merchant Services (OMS) compliance team, will be responsible for ensuring the 150+ active merchants and vendors are PCI Compliant with the upcoming Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard 4.0. This position will be required to gain a working knowledge of PCI security issues, concerns and challenges associated with a multi-institutional and heterogeneous technical and academic environment to advise reasonable and appropriate compliance solutions. This mitigates both financial and reputational risk to the University.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the facilitating of University-wide compliance with the
    Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), industry regulations, and UW information systems, information infrastructure, policies and procedures as they relate to credit card and/or payment operations
  • Work closely with the office of the CISO on continuous identification and evaluation of emerging risks and evaluation of significance of events/incidents that impact the organization's risk posture as it relates to PCI-DSS;
  • Work with representatives of the University and third party vendors to oversee compliance with the PCI-DSS requirements for all payment card processing, and the University of Washington-related policies, technical security processes, infrastructure, and long-range planning requirements;
  • Provide leadership, guidance and recommendations including policies, procedures, security architectural design, and technology solutions for UW merchant account holders in all aspects of the PCI-DSS with emphasis on safeguarding payment card data, thus protecting the interests of the cardholders and business units, and the overall University brand;
  • Conduct on-site assessments of University merchants to determine PCI Compliance levels; Monitor corrective action plans and performance improvement of PCI-DSS related issues communicated in internal and external assessments;
  • Work as project lead on PCI DSS remediation efforts for University Merchants

  • Provide day-to-day support of merchant operations
  • Attend trainings as assigned by the Office of Merchant Services Director;
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business/Finance, Information Security or related field
  • A solid understanding of PCI DSS
  • Four years of experience in a business, audit or information security-related position
  • Customer-facing experience in an IT, audit, or compliance environment
  • Experience in the development, implementation or auditing of compliance solutions and controls
  • Experience developing technical and non-technical standards, guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of information security and risk management practices
  • Excellent ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of an organization, including both business and technical audiences
  • Self-motivated with interpersonal skills required to work effectively with a broad range of University / Medical System employees and external contacts
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects / tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to evaluate systems and be able to develop solutions for compliance issues
  • Ability to prepare analyses, and create verbal and written reports
  • Proficient working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, Power Point)
  • The candidate must be analytical, detail oriented, possess strong data management and technical skills, as well as superior customer service and organizational skills

    Desired:
  • An audit certification such as CIA or CISA.
  • Experience working with HTML and/or CSS.
