New Horizons is looking full time Lead Shelter Counselors to
engage with young people experiencing homelessness ages 18-25.
Shelter counselors lead the nightly operations of Cedar Street and
The Nest, New Horizons' two young adult shelters. This is an
excellent position for someone who has a passion for providing
direct service to young adults experiencing homelessness.
Candidates must be reliable, patient, proactive and resourceful.
Lead shelter counselors play the important role of providing
consistency and predictability of presence for those who stay at
New Horizons. We will provide paid training to build on a
candidate's existing skills. The full-time position requires
working three regular overnight shifts (8pm - 8:30am) per week.
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Non-judgmental and enthusiastic attitude about engaging with young
people across the spectrum of religious and spiritual beliefs,
race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation and gender.
Demonstrated skills of teamwork and proactive coordination.
Proficient within the PC environment including Word, Excel, and
Outlook. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience successfully
working with young adults Experience with
overnight/shelter/residential programs Understanding of Trauma
