Responsibilities
The Myler lab at Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI) is hiring motivated scientists to join the Seattle Structural Genomics for Infectious Disease. -Learn more about the SSGCID at www.ssgcid.org
For this position, we are seeking a highly motivated structural biologist to lead structure determination projects and assist in the design of protein constructs for structure determination by X-ray crystallography and Cryo-electron microscopy. - Our focus is on determining structures for infectious disease researchers as part of the NIAID pre-clinical services.
The applicant will assist in the interpretation of structural data and prepare grant applications, manuscripts and technical reports. - Applicant should be familiar with the interpretation of structural data and the determination of proteins structures using NMR, Cryo-EM and Xray crystallographic methods. - Applicant will oversee crystallization and structure determination projects.
In addition, the applicant will collaborate with the principal investigators to plan, and interpret experiments. The applicant will be required to independently select and apply standardized scientific procedures, design and plan experiments, troubleshoot experiments, make detailed observations, record data prepare reports, papers and presentations. The applicant may also supervise lab members.
Requirements
Required Education/Experience: - PhD or M.D. in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or other closely related field - Minimum of six (6) years research lab experience in field of specialization - Demonstrated expertise in X-ray crystallography
- Demonstrated experience with structure based drug design
Required Credentials: - N/A Preferred: - PhD in structural biology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or a related field
- Experience with laboratory coordination, working with research staff and training technicians
- -Strong presentation and/or writing skills
- Expertise in protocol development and troubleshooting
- Recent evidence of publication
- Experience with CryoEM and NMR structure determination methods
- Experience with N-myristoyltransferase
- Experience with structure based drug design and computational methods
- Experience with Pymol and the preparation of structure figures and drawings
- Experience supervising laboratory staff
