The OPERATING ROOM has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL TIME, DAY SHIFT, PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 2 (PSS 2). The UWMC Main and Pavilion Operating Room PSS is responsible for facilitating the surgical case schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works in conjunction with the Nurse Coordinator and the Charge RN in planning, coordinating, and scheduling of surgical cases

  • Obtains necessary information and schedules the proper supplies and equipment for day of and next-day surgical cases

  • Provides patient-focused care through use of customer service strategies

  • Communicates effectively with medical staff, patients, visitors, and other medical center departments to facilitate patient care and coordinate unit activities

  • Acts as the communications center for the nursing unit: handling all unit paperwork (i.e., chart maintenance and patient information, etc.), triaging telephone calls, accessing and entering information in computer programs and participating in non-nursing activities

  • Exercises independence in the planning and accomplishment of a wide spectrum of clerical duties

  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment

    REQUIREMENTS:

    The Patient Services Specialist will be hired as either a Patient Services Specialist 1 or 2 depending on experience. The requirements are as follows:

    PSS 1: Requirements include high school graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR two years of general office experience OR equivalent education/experience.

    PSS 2: Requirements include high school graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR three years of general office or customer services experience OR equivalent education/experience.
